Henna Stained Wood Earrings
I got a henna kit for my 11th birthday, I have been doing henna art on people for the last year, and I really enjoy doing it. This is my first attempt at doing it on something other then people. I would say doing henna art on wood is just as easy as doing it on people, sometimes it's a little harder to do the finer details on wood though. For some people it may be easier or just the same. I did two pairs here and I like the way they turned out and will be exploring other items!
Supplies
Materials:
Your choice of wood objects [ Make sure they have holes in the wood pieces you choose. ]
1 tube of henna paste ( I use Prem Dulhan 100% natural Henna, found on Amazon )
Clear glaze [ I used the brand, Krylon, you can find this brand at a local Walmart, Meijer or craft store. ]
4 jump rings [ 2 big ones and 2 smaller ones. ]
2 earring posts
[ Optional ] If you have a small bottle and some nice bottle tips, to guide yourself a little better and to make finer details, this can work better than using the paste in the original tube. Make sure you keep the cap on tight after use, so it stays moist and fresh for a long time. That goes for the paste tube as well, it comes with a tiny needle-like piece of plastic - make sure you save it for when you are done.
Make Henna Designs
If you've chosen to use the bottle and tips, then squeeze your henna paste, [ from the henna tube ] into your plastic bottle, screw on the top nice and tight, and choose which tips you want to use. But if you choose not to, then take your henna paste tube and start making your designs on the wood pieces. It helps to have multiple ideas in case something doesn't work out, as well as kind of doing a simple drawing so you can reference it. It's not necessary but does help if you are a beginner or need to see something in front of you to focus. A word of caution: it can smear very easily before it's dried.
It will take about 3 hours to dry and then you can do the next step.
Spray Glaze or Gloss
Put the wood piece in a well ventilated area. Spray on a thin layer of glaze/gloss, let it dry for what is recommended on your bottle, ( I let it dry for about 2 to 3 and half hours ) then once it's set, go on to the next step.
Assemble the Earring
Using your pliers, take your 2 bigger jump rings and your 2 smaller jump rings and put one of the bigger jump rings through the hole in your wood object. Before you close the bigger jump ring, put 1 of the smaller jump rings through the bigger one, then close the big jump ring. Open the smaller jump ring and put one earring post through smaller jump ring, and close it. Next, repeat this whole step and you will have two earrings.
You're Finished!
Now you have a beautiful pair of Henna stained earrings! And you can show off all your hard work to friends and family!
