Heavy-Duty Moon Forklift

My name is Maciek Hanson and I am a sophomore at Wachusett Regional High School, I took up this competition because I enjoy a challenge and working through problems. A forklift in space has many different challenges to overcome including maneuverability and not toppling over. In this design, I sacrificed some maneuverability to make a heavy-duty forklift that can be put into use in many different places. The spools on each side of the back cabinet allow for attaching to different nearby terrain and objects. The large seating space also allows for astronauts wearing large suits to change positions comfortably and the arm bars can be brought down to prevent falling out. The wide wheels and body of the forklift are so that it has a lower center of gravity and better control and ability to stay on the ground.

Research and Wheels

To start off this design I went on google and researched many different types of forklifts and different vehicles that have been used on the moon. With my new knowledge, I started designing the wheels and axles.

Body and Extras

After I had wheels and axles I designed the body and the seating area. With the main body done I made the lifting part of the forklift and the two spools on the back.
