Hardware Store Hybrid Rocket Engine

In this instructable i will show you how to make a hybrid rocket engine from parts you can get in a hardware store.

Supplies

3" iron pipe with a 3/4" diameter.
3/4" female to 1/2" male barbed brass fitting.
Paraffin wax and a way to melt it. Dont melt it directly above a heat source as it is very flamable look up the proper ways to melt it.
3/4 to 1/2 iron adapter
1/2 male to 3/8 male barbed brass fitting.
Oxygen supply and valve for it.

Melt the Paraffin Wax Into the Iron Pipe

Put the wax beads into the thing you use to melt them, then afterwards pour the wax into the iron pipe and let sit. For me it was about 1-2 hours. After put a hole in the middle of it at least 1/8" diameter. I used a screw driver.

Add the Fittings to the Pipe

Screw the female barbed fitting onto the iron pipe, then screw the iron adapter to the other side of the iron pipe, then screw the male 1/2 to 3/8 barbed fitting into the adapter.

Attaching the Oxygen

I would recommend putting the engine on the test stand before you attach it. Use the vinyl tubing to the female 3/4 to 1/2 barbed fitting and attach the other end of the tube to the oxygen supply. Make sure to use a valve so you dont waste the oxygen.

Testing

Put the engine onto the test stand(you can use a clamp or bench vice) and use a grill lighter or a blow tourch to ignite the engine once you open the oxygen valve. STAY AT A SAFE DISTANCE. I am not responsible for any injuries caused by this if you make it. It probably wont get you to space but its a fun activity to learn how a hybrid rocket engine works.
