Happy Rainbow Mobile
I have always enjoyed doing crafts whether they are simple or more complicated. For this Instructable, I tried to think of something that children can easily make that would take more than just a couple of minutes. I also wanted to use things that I had on hand and that they can proudly display. Follow along to see how I made this Happy Rainbow Mobile! It may be a craft for kids, but I had lots of fun making it!
Supplies
Newspaper
Glue
Scissors
Poster board
Colored popsicle craft sticks
bag of cotton balls
Bag of wiggly eyes
Embroidery hoop or other ring
Twine
Pencil
Hole punch
Measuring tape or ruler
Lay Out Popsicle Sticks
On a piece of newspaper, lay out 4 sets of 6 popsicle sticks in order of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. Leave a small space between each stick at the bottom so they fan out just a little.
Add Glue
Squirt a line of glue across the top of the popsicle sticks.
Cut Twine
Cut 4 pieces of twine to fit across the top of each cloud.
Attach the Twine
Press a piece of twine onto the glue. Do this with all 4 sets of rainbow sticks.
Cut the Clouds
On a piece of poster board, roughly draw 4 clouds that will fit on top of the rainbows. Cut each out.
Attach the Clouds
Squirt some more glue on top of each piece of twine on the rainbow sticks. Press and attach the 4 clouds.
More Glue
Now squirt glue over each cloud.
Add Cotton Balls
Add and arrange enough cotton balls on the glue to cover each poster board cloud.
Ready for the Eyes
Select 8 eyes. Turn each over on your work surface. Add a drop of glue to each back of the eye.
Press Them
Press and glue 2 eyes onto each cloud.
Make the Mouths
Draw 4 mouths on a piece of red poster board. Carefully cut each out.
Glue the Mouths
Add glue to the back of each mouth. Press and attach each mouth under a set of eyes on the clouds. Allow the glue to dry for at least 30 minutes.
Make the Mobile
Set out the embroidery hoop that is a solid circle. Cut 4 (7-inch) pieces of twine. Tie each onto the embroidery hoop, making them an equal distance apart.
Tie the Twine
Pull the 4 strands of twine to the center and make a knot.
Add More Cotton Balls
Carefully turn over each rainbow. Add glue to the back of each cloud. Press on cotton balls to cover. Allow to dry for at least 1 hour.
Attach Twine
Using a hole punch, punch a hole in the top of each cloud. Cut 4 (13-inch) pieces of twine. Tie a knot and attach each piece of twine to the top of the clouds.
Attach the Rainbows
Arrange the rainbows around the circle. Tie a knot to attach them to the circle.
All Finished!
Here is the finished mobile. Any child who makes one will feel happy and proud every time they see it hanging!
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I made this happy rainbow mobile. I really enjoyed making it!
