Happy Plant Pots
Hi Instructables!
In this instructable I am going to share how to add a bit of character to your plant pals with these happy plat pots.
They are fun to make and great for small plants, cacti or succulents (you could always make a bigger plant pot with more polymer clay)
and yes, calling them by another name had crossed my mind ;)
lets begin
Supplies
Materials
Terracotta coloured polymer clay.
A bit of white or translucent white polymer clay.
A small plant pot. It can be plastic or clay.
Tin foil.
some water or wet wipes for smoothing things off
Tools
sculpting tools (these can be tooth picks and paper clips if need be)
Craft knife
The Basic Pot
Take your plant pot and wrap it in tinfoil from the outside in (this is so you can remove it later on)
Flatten out your clay and wrap it round the lower portion of the plant pot, just up to its "lip"
Roll out a long thick snake of clay, long enough to go around the top of the pot.
Flatten it out a bit (to about 5mm thick) and wrap it around the top of the pot over the lip making sure its overlapping the lower portion of the pot and well pressed against it.
Giving It Some Lip
Using your craft knife cut out a smile in the lower half of the lower portion of the pot
YOU MAY WANT TO WASH YOUR HANDS NOW.
Take some white and make some teeth shapes. I did this by rolling it out, cutting some slices and pressing them into shape.
Place the teeth into the mouth gap making sure they are over lapping the edges.
Roll out a long thin snake of terracotta and attach a bit to the lower lip smoothing out the underside.
Repeat with the upper lip, smoothing up the way.
You can also add some small pieces at the sides of the mouth to emphasise the smile :)
Eyes!
Take two smaller thinner snakes and place them coming down from the lip and smooth out the under side.
Make some holes in the base.
Remove the inner pot.
Put it in the oven at as directed by your brand of polymer clay.
Finished!
And we are done!
Obviously you dont need to make them all happy, or this size, you can even add arms and legs :)
As always i hope you enjoyed this instructable and thoughts comments criticisms and photos of your own happy plant pots are welcome in the comment section below.
Happy gardening!
