Hanging Bird Seed Hearts

I enjoy crafts of all kinds. I haven't done much sculpting but I definitely would like to do more of it! I was trying to think of some different type of material to sculpt besides clay. My husband feeds the birds so it came to me that I could sculpt something with his bird seed to feed the wild birds! Here I have made hanging hearts of birdseed! They were very fun to make and I know my husband and I will enjoy watching the local birds feeding on them. Here is how you can easily make some too.

In the large bowl, stir the hazelnut flour, water, gelatin and corn syrup. Add bird seed. Stir to blend well.

Lay out a silicone baking sheet or parchment paper. Place the cookie cutter on the mat. Spray the inside of your cookie cutter with cooking spray. Fill the cookie cutter with the bird seed mixture, pressing in to pack it in. Use a chop stick or a straw to make a hole in the center top of each heart. Carefully remove the cookie cutter.

Use All of the Mixture

Repeat until all of the bird seed mixture is used. With my cookie cutters, I made 7 hearts. Refrigerate over night.

Finishing Touch!

Cut seven 20-inch pieces of ribbon. Push the ribbon through each hole and make a tie.

Take Out to Hang

I decided to hang 4 and save the other 3 for when these have been eaten.

They Look Great!
