Out of nowhere, his phone rings. It’s her—the girl he’s secretly admired for months. She asks him out on a date... in 30 minutes.

For only 100 Canadian Dollars, grab your HandFlex today at your nearest stores, like Shoppers Drug Mart. Be quick—the discounts are valid only until the end of this weekend!

But if money’s tight, don’t despair—you can DIY your own HandFlex at home (not recommended). Here’s resources you’ll need(not stolen in any way):

Supplies

  1. A small mirror with sticky buttons
  2. Cardboard
  3. Double-sided tape
  4. Scotch tape (optional)
  5. A 3D printer (three options: Buy one, sneakily print it piece by piece at school, or use your friend’s)
  6. Plastic filament for the printer
  7. A pair of scissors
  8. A computer and access to Thingiverse

Download and Print

Go to https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:171234 and download the finger model (Thx Bro for this 3d model). Load it into your preferred 3D printing software. I recommend Tinkercad. Print five fingers for the HandFlex. Save the file to an SD card, insert it into the printer, and start printing. If you’re confused, check out a helpful YouTube guide (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FDlgeCOGUI). (P.S I hope you know how to use your personal 3D printer)

The Fingers

After a while you will have fingers that will be used instead of the sticks you use to comb your hair.

Prepare the Cardboard Base

photo_5327826202938960349_y.jpg

Then you cut out a piece of cardboard in the shape of a hand (you can trace your hand and then cut out the cardboard with scissors). So you will need to cut out 2 more of these shapes. Using double-sided tape you glue one shape to the second as in the photo, but leave 3 for later.

Prepare the Cardboard Base

You will need to trace on the second layer where you will then insert your fingers. You can make them larger than the ones shown in the photo so that you can insert the fingers deeper, which will allow them to hold more firmly. Cut these holes only on the second layer, without touching the bottom layer, and insert small pieces of double-sided tape where you will put the fingers.

Assemble the HandFlex Pt.1

Then you cover the whole thing with a third layer of double sided tape just like you covered the first layer with the second layer by scraping the tape in the middle. Sometimes you, like me, may need a personal assistant to clean up after yourself and take out unwanted scraps of cardboard. This time it was my cat Bonnie (Not for sale). Insert the pre-made fingers into the holes on the cardboard hand, adding more tape in some places (If necessary) and we are getting closer to the finish line.

Assemble the HandFlex Pt.2

Here's the result. Next, take the mirror that is prescribed in the supplies. If there is no such mirror, you can simply take any small mirror and use double-sided tape and glue it to the inside of the artificial hand.

Assemble the HandFlex Pt.3

We're done here. If you want to improve the overall look of this masterpiece, you can glue the edges of the cardboard.

Assemble the HandFlex Pt.4

HandFlex is ready to use. Also, if it is more comfortable for you, you can make an attachment to help hold the HandFlex.

Optional Handle Pt.1

To do this you can use any shape your hands can handle. I used a knife because it has a comfortable handle. Only unlike the knife, I left the edges rectangular so there was more room for adhesion. You cut this shape twice for strength and then glue it together as before in these cases.

Optional Handle Pt.2

Attach one part to the other by any convenient means such as double-sided tape or staples and your device is ready for improved use.

Variations of Use

And here are the uses:

(Main)

  1. Hairbrush

(Side).

  1. Cat comb
  2. Back scratcher
  3. Chin holder when you are tired, etc.
  4. And whatever else your genius mind can dream up

Reminder! It is not recommended to create at home, it is better to buy and not worry about it. (P.S The handle comes at an extra cost)
