Han Solo Lucky Dice
Han Solo's dice[7] were a pair of aurodium-plated[6] gold dice owned by the smuggler Han Solo that he used to play the sabacc variant known as "Corellian Spike" with. While escaping his homeworld of Corellia in 13 BBY, Han gave the pair of dice to Qi'ra as a symbol of good luck, only for her to be captured by Moloch, taking the pair of dice with her. Three years later on the planet Kessel, Qi'ra gave the pair of dice back to Han during a mission to steal unrefined coaxium from the Kessel mines. During a game of Spike against Lando Calrissian, Solo won his opponent's YT-1300 light freighter, the Millennium Falcon, thanks to those dice. Solo kept the gaming devices,[1] and the Wookiee Chewbacca hung them in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon years before the Cyrkon Extraction as a joke,[8] though Solo kept them up as a lucky charm.[1] ref.1
Supplies
- laser etcher/cutter
- gold paint
- gloss black paint
- wood glue
- two18 inch costume jewelry chains
- needle nose pliers
Laser Cutting the Dice Pieces
- Using the laser, cut out all the pieces that are to be gold dice pieces. You will need two sets of these to create two dice. Save the fallout pieces not used in these steps as they will be used in Step X.
- Paint all the dice pieces gold including the edges.
- Cut out all the pieces that are to be black insert pieces.
- Paint these pieces glossy black. The edges do not need to be painted as they will be hidden by the outer gold box that forms the dice symbols.
- Glue the black insert pieces together to form a cube.
- Layout the gold pieces as shown in the photo and glue them together over the black insert cube being careful to have each in the proper position and proper face of the dice.
Attach the Gold Chain
Take one of the gold chains and using the needle nose pliers, open a chain link in the middle of the chain to create two nine inch pieces of chain. Depending on the type of clasp on the chain, you can attach that end to one of the dice. Use the needle nose pliers to insert the open chain link through the attachment hole and close the chain link.
The Dark Side
- Using the laser, cut out the black dice pieces. As in Step 1 you will need two of these.
- Paint these glossy black including the edges.
- Lay out the pieces as shown in the photo and glue the remaining gold symbols onto each dice face. Again, be sure to place the pieces in the correct orientation and on the correct dice face.
- Glue the dice cube together as shown in the photo.
- Attach the remaining nine inch piece of chain to the pair of dice using the needle nose pliers.
