Take a before picture, when building your brand or starting off as a new cosmetologist this is how you start building your portfolio.

Drape & Prep

Drape your client with a cape and part his/her hair into 4 sections. Put on protective gloves, since you will be working with chemicals.

Formula

Mix your formula. This is where your knowledge on color formulation comes in handy. All color brands are different so make sure you read the color to developer ratio. For the brand that I am using, I added two ounces of creme developer with 2 ounces of hair dye. Once I have everything in the bowl, I mix until I get a creamy consistency.

Application

Start by coloring the roots in all four sections and the hairline as well. Once you are done with the roots you may begin with the rest of the hair starting out on either one of the front sections, Move to each section until all of the hair is saturated. Once you are done saturating the hair, give the hair time to process by following the instructions of the hair dye you are using. Processing time is usually between 30-45 mins.

Wash & Style

Once the hair is done processing, wash the clients hair. Once the water is clear of color, blow dry your clients hair and style if needed. That is the basic way of applying and retouching some one's hair color.
