HIPPIE LOOM
Few years ago I see somewhere one of this ''stick-loom'', and I decided to make one. They are usually made with super colorful thread, but I decided to make it with leather.
They are easy and fun to make, good like a kraft for kid too.
My husband told me they are called hippie-loom, and I can totally see why!
WHAT YOU NEED
You need:
-an Y shaped stick;
-scrap leather (or thread);
-linen cord;
-scissors;
-a piece of cardboard;
-drill.
DRILL HOLES
Drill many holes all the way on the branched part of the stick.
PLACE THE CORD
Now you have to form the loom.
Starting on one bottom side of the stick, and arriving to the top part, insert the cord in very holes, going from the left to the right and vice versa.
When you are done tie the string to the stick with many loop.
CUT THE LEATHER
Make many strings with the leather. You need to take a round left over piece and start cutting it from one edge, doing a spiral (see photo).
Or just choose different color of thread that you like (or fabric strip, cord…anythings you want).
MAKE a REEL
Wrap the leather string around a piece of cardboard, so it will be easier to insert in the loom.
START THE WORK
Knot the leather strip to the top left side of the loom. Than pass the thread under and upper the linen cord, just like a real loom, going up and down as you reach the edges (see photo).
CHANGE COLOR
When the string is finished, just tie it to the next piece (change color), and keep weaving.
Make sure the knot stay under, so it will not be noticeable when the work is finished.
Keep going until you use all the space.
FINISH THE WORK
When all the loom is completed just tie the string on the edge.
Add a cord in the middle if you like to hang it, and may be some beads.
DONE
You are done! Easy and fun!
