Grell Sutcliff Scissors Death Scythe (Convention Safe)

I made some scissor death scythe's for my cosplay.

Please don't bring actual scissors into a convention as they are not approved and will be confiscated. It's better to just paint up your own.

• Plastic Scissors (without blades! So that they’re con approved)
• Silver Spray Paint
• Red Spray Paint
• Masking/Painters Tape
• Newspapers (to spray paint on, to protect working area)
• Gesso (optional)
• Paint Brush (optional)
• Floral Brick (optional)
• Clear Finishing Spray (some sort of sealer)

First off pull apart the scissors. Be careful as they can be a bit stiff and you don’t want to break them.

When spray painting, go outside and place newspapers down on grass/working area.

Spray paint scissors silver so that they resemble blades.

Also, spray paint the little clips that hold the scissors together silver as well.

I also painted the handles as it was easier than masking them off and I needed them to have a base coat anyway so that they were one colour, rather than painting over the two different tones of blue.

Leave them to dry and then flip them over to spray paint the other side.

Leave to dry overnight to ensure that it’s completely dry.

NOTE: My handles were rubber and the spray paint didn't adhere to them well. so don't worry about spray painting them now if yours aren't plastic.

Once the scissors are completely dry cover the blades in masking or painters tape.

This step is optional and only needed if your handles, like mine, were made of rubber and the spray paint won't adhere to them.

Push the blades into your floral brick. (This will allow you to paint over the handles completely without having to wait for it to dry before painting the other side).

Paint the handles with white Gesso to act as a base for your red spray paint later.

Leave to dry overnight.

When spray painting, go outside and place newspapers down on grass/working area.

Spray paint the handles red.

Leave them to dry.

Once they are completely dry, remove them from the floral brick (if you used one), and take off the masking tape.

Spray the scissors with your clear sealer.

Leave it to dry.

Reassemble your scissors and you can be one deadly efficient butler.
