DIY Under 5 // Giant Hairspray Can

I was asked to create a pair of giant hairspray cans for a pop up cinema company, so I thought I would share my process with you all. I created a three minute DIY video as linked above, or you can continue here for the full written/picture instructions!

Enjoy!

You Will Need:

1.jpg
  1. A sheet of foam, the size is dependable on how big you want to make your can.
  2. A flower pot
  3. Pva Glue
  4. Contact Adhesive
  5. Silver Spray Paint
  6. Blue Paper
  7. Pink Paper
  8. White Paper
  9. Foam Noodles
  10. Scissors

Step 1 & 2

2.jpg

Fold the foam into a cylindrical shape and using contact adhesive glue the edges together.

Follow all instructions on your glue.

Step 3

3.jpg

Using contact adhesive glue the foam noodles to the bottom and top of the rim of the cans.

Step 4

4.jpg

Cut a circle out of foam that is larger in diameter than the hole of the can.

Step 5

5.jpg

From the center of the circle draw and cut out a triangle.

Step 6

6.jpg

Using contact adhesive, glue the edges of the circle together to form a cone.

Step 7

7.jpg

Using contact adhesive, glue the cone to the inside of the can with the tip pointing outwards.

Step 8

8.jpg

Using silver spray paint, paint the outside of the flower pot silver.

Step 9

9.jpg

Cut a slice from a foam noodle, then using pva or hot glue, glue the slice to the pot to make it look more like a can nozzle.

Step 10

10.jpg

Attach the flower pot to the top of the cone using hot glue or PVA. Then spray paint the cone, foam noodles and the top and bottom quarter of the can, the middle will be covered so there is no need to paint it.

Step 11

Using card or paper, create a label. I copied the "Ultra Clutch" Logo from Hairspray. You design the can anyway you wish. Then using pva and duct tape I secured the label to the can.

Done!
