Geometric Elephant in String Art
Welcome to a nice, easy and cheap project. I was surprised how little time it took me to do it and how well it turned out, I encourage everyone to do it if you have an hour or two to spare.
Supplies
- Cardboard
- Cork sheet
- Nails
- Black string
- Hot silicone
- Hammer
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Marker
- Pencil
- Paper
- Rags
Silhouette
Draw the silhouette of you want (google it), I chose an elephant. The important parts that I wanted to highlight like the ear and the legs I also drew them even if they are inside the silhouette.
Then with the ruler, draw straight lines. And with a marker pen mark the angles.
TAKE A PICTURE TO GUIDE YOU.
Base
First I tried to do it on wood but nailing the nails was too difficult, so I made a base with cardboard and cork, I used two sheets of cardboard and one of cork, I glued them together with hot silicone. The size I used was 20x20 cm.
Driving Nails
Place the paper on top of the base and hammer the nails in at the points we marked earlier. Place some rags underneath to avoid damaging your table, but the nails should not stick out from the back. After the marked points I drove four nails in the centre and two in the head.
Remove the Template
Make sure you have taken the picture.
Don't be afraid to break it, be careful because if you pull it out from the top, the nails may fall out.
Start With the String
You can really start anywhere you like, tie a knot on one nail, move on to the next and turn it around, making sure the thread is outside the nails.
Continue
You don't really need to cut the thread, but cut it if you need to.
Double Line
After I did all the edging on the outside, I did it on the inside to make a double line.
Triangles
Play with the thread and the nails in the middle to create triangles.
Finishing
I ran the thread several times around the edge to make it thicker, when it's the way you like it, tie knots in any nail and cut off all the excess. You can paint the head of the nails with a black permanent marker or black nail polish, this is optional.
