Garlic Parmesan Frico Bacon Grilled Cheese
Cheesy goodness with bacon and garlic thrown in! Until I can figure out a way to add chocolate this is the best it gets.
Frico: a baked or fried cheese crisp
Ingredients don't have measurements because you might like a little more bacon on yours or maybe your bread is bigger and needs more parm to cover it.
Supplies
Ingredients
Bread - any type, whole grain is pretty good but I used white here since I have that in the house
Bacon, 2 slices
Grated Parmesan
Grated cheese - 2 or three types. I used mozzarella for ooey gooey stringiness and cheddar and swiss for flavor.
Margarine or soft butter
Garlic powder
Equipment
Butter knife
Non-stick pan
Spatula
Cheese grater if you did buy pre-grated cheese
(pic of ingredients below)
Fry Bacon
Cut bacon in half and fry to desired crispiness. Grate your cheese while bacon is frying. Blot grease with paper towel. If you are using the same pan to cook the sandwich wipe the grease out of the pan.
Butter Your Bread
Spread one side of each slice of bread with margarine. Sprinkle liberally with garlic powder.
Prepare Parmesan
Sprinkle your parm on your pan, you want a single layer the size of your bread. A non-stick pan is a must for this. Turn burner to medium heat.
Create Sandwich
Place your first slice of bread garlic side down on top of your parm. Add each of your cheeses in a thin layer, then the bacon, then a bit more cheese just to make sure everything sticks. Top with your second slice of bread garlic side out.
Cook until the cheeses inside are melty enough to hold the sandwich together. If you start to smell the parm getting a smoky smell it's time to flip it, but don't wait for that. The parm should get orange rather than look toasted.
Frico Your Second Side
Place your parm in the pan like you did for the first side and flip your sandwich onto it. This side will cook faster, about two minutes. Take off the heat when the second frico has turned orange.
Eat with ketchup, aioli, or just a napkin :).
