GREEN RANGER DRAGON SHIELD
Ever since the great and mighty JASON DAVID FRANK(1973 - 2022) has unfortunately passed away... i've decided to make a GREEN RANGER DRAGON SHEILD and now it's the year 2024 the year of the dragon ... let's get started ... IT'S MORPHIN TIME !
Supplies
51 cm x 51 cm 6mm thick craft foam
bronze spray can
gold spray can
black posca marker/black acrylic paint (for black details of choice )
gold sharpie marker
hot glue gun
Heat gun
Heat pen
stainless steel cutting blade
cutting matt
12 x 18 cm yellow foam
velcro sticker tabs
green ranger shield reference picture
CAUTION:- Some of these items may leave to hazardous such as burns, scratches, cuts and harsh fumes inhalants, so please use extra protection like dust mask, rubber disposable gloves and wear appropriate old clothes you don't mind getting stains on.
- Once you have purchased your foam... for the size of the shield you want, get your heat gun, spray heat to the foam, to make it more bendable and it's a lot more easy to cut (30 - 60 seconds of spraying heat) .
- Go to you reference picture or footage of the green ranger and start by drawing lightly on the foam, the dragon shield patterns with your posca marker and then start using the heat pen, be very extra careful as you may burn yourself, so be sure to have enough room for access ability or get assistant from friend or family and once the pattern are done, you need to cut a diamond shape in the middle of the foam shield, with the stainless steel knife as it will be the ensignia part of the dragon shield; you want to make sure you measure the center point, as you'll cut a diamond shape object is precisely 8" to 8".
- once you've cut the diamond shape foam, get your hot glue gun and place it to the front part of the shield press firmly in place, bend the shoulder corners of the shield so the shield can seat nicey into place once you have placed it on yourself (if it's not in the right angel, use the heat gun again to make the shield more bendable and flexible to be in position.
- Now for the really annoying part, as you'll need to spray paint you shield with a bronze base coat, make sure it is dry as possible or leave it in a dry place over night to be dried completely.
- Now that your dragon shield is dried up, you can start by painting it with a gold coat of spray paint and once that its dried again, the next best bit comes.
- Now your foam Green Ranger shield is covered in gold paint completely, you need to add the black details to the ensignia and all the Green Rangers details from your reference picture, by using your black posca marker or black Acrylic paint can be good and use your gold sharpie marker pen, for more added gold details to your shield if you like.
- Now you'll need your 12 x 18 cm yellow foam, cut them 3.5" 9cm width for the shield strap position and added velcro to where they'll be place, sometimes the velcro will have a sticky end to them which can be annoying once trying to stick them on, but be cautious and stick once on each end of the yellow straps and and under your dragon shield, and place them as if you were wear a vest or a rucksack strap under your armpit next to your ribcage, (DETAIL:- You don't really need the under strap part, as you can see on the photos in full cosplay below, the model is with and without the straps, but it can be of use, if wanting to be in position of the shield onto your chosen costume).
- And now you are done, try it on for yourself and KE-YAHH... your ready to save the world, in the Power Rangers or Super Zentai way!!!
FINALLY GREEN RANGER SHIELD IS COMPLETE ... PLACE THEM ON CHOSEN COSTUME ... ENJOY AND HAVE A FUN TIME MAKING IT.
