Frog Garbage Bin

We want to create a fun garbage bin to encourage younger children to throw away their trash in a school setting. We decided on a frog design because frogs are fun, appealing animals that many children like. This design can also help teach the importance of properly disposing of waste and protecting the habitats of animals around the world!

Supplies

We used a small trash bin, primer, green and pink paint, cardboard, and 3D-printed pieces. Plus for the prototype we used cloth, Styrofoam and cans!

To start, we drew out our plan on a whiteboard, then created a basic design in Tinkercad to represent the outline of our project and test how it might look!

To start we 3d printed off our first design to see how it might look and it did not turn out the way we wanted so we discarded this version of it and tried for a real sized bigger model of it!

Next, we took the trash bin and applied a substitute for primer, then painted it green to represent the body of the frog. Then cut a tongue for our frog out of cardboard and attaching it to the trash bin with hot glue, other attachment methods would work fine as well!

Next we wanted to design a head prototype so we can see how it looked. We started with cutting out Styrofoam and attaching cloth to it then placing can on the top to look as eyes.

For the fifth step, we used a website called OnShape to create a design for the lid. We designed a frog head with two big eyes on top and a handle in the middle between them, ensuring it fit the measurements of the top of the trash bin!

Next, we cut the design in half and loaded each half of the frog head onto a different 3D printer to print them. Once they were finished, we glued both halves together.

The final step was placing the final head design onto the trash bin base and making sure everything fits properly and turned out how we wanted!
