Four Elements in a Jar

In this Instructable I will show you how to make a cool display of the four elements in a jar.

1. Four small jars of various sizes

2. 2-3 decorative rocks

3. Mosses

4. Soil

5. A small chunk of bark

6. Water

7. Blue food coloring

8. Cooking oil

9. A candle wick

10. Hot glue gun/Hot glue

For the element of Air, all you need is a bottle with air in it. I used the smallest bottle I had for this element, since there is nothing in it but air :)

For the element of Water, get a cup of water and put in one drop of blue food coloring. Then fill a bottle halfway with the blue water. Fill the other half with cooking oil, and hot glue the cork into place. Then give the bottle a little shake to make the bubbly effect.

For the Earth bottle, cover the bottom (or side) with soil. Then use slim tweezers to place in mosses and bark. I will have most of my bottles laying on their side, so I placed the items accordingly. I even added a little purple flower. You can add flowers, pebbles, or even tiny plants.

Hot glue the jars onto the rocks, in a way that you like. I have mine on their sides, but you can glue them any way that pleases you.

I did not place the Fire element in a jar, because it is so small that it would probably not burn for very long. Instead, I took a candle wick and glued it in between some of the jars. When lit, it looks pretty cool, but won't burn for too long. You could keep replacing the wick, or just have the other three elements. Just don't let the fire burn too close to the jars. If the jars are plastic, it will melt them, and if they are glass, it will leave a black film on the outside.
