Amidst the relentless global spread of the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19), the ubiquitous use of handwashes and hand sanitizers has emerged as a cornerstone in the battle against transmission, spanning various institutions, shops, and households. However, the inherent risk of virus spread through direct contact poses a formidable challenge. In response to this pressing concern, I endeavored to create an innovative solution: the Non-Contact Sanitizer Dispenser. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this device is engineered to mitigate the risk of virus transmission through physical contact. By enabling users to dispense handwash or sanitizer without direct hand contact, the dispenser significantly elevates safety and hygiene levels in public spaces and homes alike. What sets this solution apart is its accessibility: designed with affordability and simplicity in mind, the Non-Contact Sanitizer Dispenser boasts a low-cost construction and straightforward assembly process. Anyone can replicate it, making it accessible to communities worldwide. Materials and Tools Used

The Non-Contact Sanitizer Dispenser was constructed using the following materials:

  • 30*30 wooden plank (base)
  • 50mm PVC pipe (75cm long)
  • 50mm T joint
  • 50*75 mm reducer
  • Cycle brake cable
  • 18*9 cm wooden plank (pedal)
  • Wire connector
  • Sprayer
  • Bottle
  • Hinge
  • Aluminum angle

Tools utilized in the construction process include:

  • Driller cum tightener
  • Grinding tool
  • Screwdriver
  • Soldering iron

Base and Frame Preparation

  • Begin by ensuring that the 30*30 wooden plank is clean, smooth, and free of any defects.
  • Cut the 50mm PVC pipe to a length of 75cm, and assemble it with the T joint and reducer to form the frame structure.
  • Use screws or adhesive to securely attach the frame to the wooden base, ensuring stability and durability.


Pedal Mechanism and Brake Cable Installation

  • Construct the pedal by attaching the 18*9 cm wooden plank to the aluminum angle using screws or adhesive.
  • Attach the pedal to the frame using hinges, allowing it to move up and down freely.
  • Thread the cycle brake cable through the frame, connecting one end to the pedal mechanism and the other end to the sprayer.


Sprayer and Bottle Attachment

  • Mount the sprayer mechanism onto the frame, positioning it above the pedal and ensuring that the nozzle is directed towards the user's hands.
  • Securely attach the bottle containing handwash or sanitizer to the frame above the sprayer, using wire connectors or adhesive.

Final Adjustments and Safety Checks

  • Test the pedal mechanism to ensure smooth operation, and adjust the tension of the brake cable if necessary to achieve the desired dispensing pressure.
  • Conduct a thorough safety check to ensure that all components are securely fastened and that there are no sharp edges or potential hazards.


Testing and Finalization:


  • Fill the bottle with handwash or sanitizer, and test the dispenser to ensure proper functionality.
  • Adjust the pedal tension or sprayer nozzle as needed to achieve the desired dispensing volume and coverage.
  • Once satisfied with the performance, finalize the assembly by securely fastening all components and conducting a final safety check.

I used a 30*30 wooden plank (base), 50mm PVC pipe (75cm long), 50mm T joint, 50*75 mm reducer, cycle brake cable, 18*9 cm wooden plank (pedal), wire connector, sprayer, bottle, hinge, and aluminum angle. The total material cost is less than 300 units of currency.

Having supplied over 100 units, including on behalf of my college, and successfully implementing 30 dispensers across various government offices in Kasaragod district, I received commendation from both the district administration and the district police administration. This achievement underscores the effectiveness and value of the Non-Contact Sanitizer Dispenser in promoting public health and safety, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The widespread adoption of these dispensers demonstrates their practicality, affordability, and contribution to mitigating the risk of virus transmission in public spaces. As we continue to navigate the challenges posed by the pandemic, such initiatives highlight the importance of innovation and collaborative efforts in safeguarding community well-being.
