Firewood Planter

This is a very simple project to create beautiful decorations for your garden.

Once you find all the right tools, it will only take a few minutes to complete!

I used:

  • A saw (band saw to quicken process)
  • A drill
  • A large drill bit (I used a 25mm spade bit)
  • A small drill bit (I used a 4mm)
  • Sander
  • Spray Laquer

Find a Piece of Wood

This is from a tree we cut down in the garden, but almost anything will do!

Once you found an appropriate piece of wood, cut it to the lengths that you prefer.

Drill the Hole

I first drilled the larger hole about 2/3s of the way through the piece of wood. After this I drilled the smaller hole all the way through to allow water drainage.

Sanding and Attaching the Rope

After drilling, I took the piece to a sander and smoothed the sides and rounded the edges for a more professional look. I then sprayed a single layer of lacquer on the whole piece. This is not to change the appearance of the piece, just to give it a bit of protection as I am hanging it outside where it will be battered by the wind and rain.

To complete the piece, i just screwed in two screw eyes and tied a piece of rope to it.

Find an Appropriate Plant and Place to Hang It

Now just fill up the whole with some soil and plant something in it!

I used a succulent, simply because they are so hardened, easy to keep alive and overall pretty.

Enjoy!

Feel free to leave some feedback and share your own creations! I put mine in this tree we replanted to decorate it while we wait for the leaves to come back.
