Finger Knife Guard

This finger Guard is to protect your fingers when slicing vegetables. Just slip your middle finger into the strap at the back and safely slice away. I made it as I have embarked on an 'Eat more vegetables' journey for health reasons. With the finger guard I can now slice vegetables with confidence.

Supplies

2 Aluminum Berverage cans (440 ml)

8 cm length 15 mm webbing

Tools:

  • Box cutting knife
  • Scissors
  • Sandpaper
  • Contact Adhesive
  • Epoxy glue

Create a Sheet of Aluminium

  • Remove the top of a beverage can with a box cutter, trim the edge using a pair of scissors.
  • Remove the bottom of the can in the same way.
  • Cut the tube down the middle to make a sheet
  • Flatten the sheet of aluminum by moving it against an edge.

Make Some Rectangles

  • Make the flattened sheet of aluminum into 4 rectangles each: 100mm by 45mm.
  • Cut the rectangles out using a pair of scissors.
  • Create a curve in each sheet by drawing against an edge.
  • Repeat the same process as described so far with another beverage can so there are 8 curved rectangles.

Aluminium Laminating

To make the aluminum sheet stronger, 8 sheets are laminated together:

  • Apply contact adhesive to the concave side of a rectangle.
  • Apply contact adhesive to the convex side of another rectangle.
  • Press the two together.
  • After joining, cut the corners round.
  • Join together 4 pairs in the same way.

More Laminating

Join a pair to another pair and repeat untill they have all been laminated together.

Attach a Finger Holder

Attach a finger holder to the back:

  • Cut a width of 25mm webbing to a 80mm length.
  • Sand where the webbing will be glued.
  • Glue the webbing using epoxy resin, leaving a gap for your middle finger to slip in.
  • Use removable painters tape to secure the webbing until the glue has set.
