I Am Groot...
It was just awesome to bring Groot to life. The Children loved it!
The Beginning
Dremel Work
Here I cut out my shape and started with a Dremel using a sanding stone. It worked great! I would recommend getting a face mask and safety glasses cause this stuff goes everywhere. I also had rubber gloves on.
Top of the Head
Some detail work on the top of the head. I also purchase a 1" usb Fan that I mounted in the top to cool me down. the fan ran on power pack that I picked up on Amazon 2 - $10
Air Dry Foam Clay
Here I used some Air Dry Foam Clay to add a little more to the nose and mouth area. Then carved with the Dremel.
The Hands
This was a little challenging. Used the crafting foam and Hot Glue to extended my fingers on the gloves that I picked up at Harbor Freight. I recommend buy larger gloves then your hands... Once they starter sweating while wearing it was tough to take the gloves off.
Figuring Out Your Feet!
I used Pink Foam board and glued them together to give me a platform to stand on. Then I hot glued and velcro'd Crocs to the top. after that I rounded them a bit with a disk sander, including the bottom making them like a rocker chair... it makes it easier to walk in then I started adding Upholstery Foam 2" think. Then I went in with an extended razor blade and started shaping the roots.

Duck Tape Body!
Next I needed something to work off of. So I had my sister and husband tape me up...LOL! her husband was excited for this. haha
I used 3 rolls of tape.
you can do this many different ways. YouTube and see what works best for you. if I was to do it again, I would do waist to ankles - Torso and neck - arms separate.
after they finally cut me out, which was not easy either... nicked me a few times. I tape up the cuts and was ready to mount on my structor that I made out of 1" PVC. if you want just fill the body with pillow filling to make it easy. I went the other way and bought expanding foam that you can get at Home Depot for using on Fence posts.
The Bottom Half!
I purchased from amazon top and bottom base layer clothes and put them on my dummy. then I started working its way up adding foam. Best to use 3M Super 74 adhesive... I went with the 77 and it took longer. then I just slowly work my way up adding a few pieces and then go in and carve with the extended razor blade. After I had the look that I liked. then I carved all the groves with a soldering iron, which was very slick.
Adding the Lights!
Do you remember that scene where Groot lights up the dark room. well I added Fairy lights that ran on USB to look like fire bugs coming out of my hand. Picked them up at Amazon for $5 - 33ft on copper wire. worked nicely~
Upper Body!
same exact thing as the bottom. Then I created templates for all the armor plates then used 10mm crafting foam
Base Coat
I found this Acrylic Spray Paint at Hobby Lobby called Ironcad "Black Matte" and used 4 cans of that for my base coat.
Hand Painted All the Texture
I hand painted all the browns, yellows, creams, and greens into the suit. It took awhile but it turned out amazing. I also picked up some reindeer moss at the dollar store and hot glued that on.
