File Crate Storage Column
This came about because I needed an inexpensive storage solution for larger magazines. It is a quick and easy project that looks good and provides a good amount of storage without looking messy. It is great for small spaces. It can be customized to your liking in color and pattern. Enjoy.
Materials
3 File crates (your color of choice)
Corrugated cardboard or Foam board
3 - 12 x 12 scrapbooking sheets (your pattern of choice)
Gift wrap or oversize paper
Glue stick
large ruler
scissor or utility blade
books or magazines
Adhesive tape (not shown)
Making the Crate Panels
Cut 3 pieces of cardboard to 9.5 in x 14.5 in.
Cut a 2.5 strip off of the 12 x 12 scrapbooking sheet. Cut the strip from 12 in to 9.5 in. Tape the strip to the side of the 9.5 x 12. This will make the scrapbook piece 9.5 in x 14.5 in.
Using the glue stick, glue the sheet onto the cardboard. Repeat for all three boards.
Use books or magazines to weigh down the paper and give you a smooth finish. Let glue dry.
Making the Lid
Cut a 12.5 in x 15.5 in piece of cardboard. Use the gift wrap or oversize paper to wrap the cardboard. Using the glue stick, put glue on each side of the cardboard prior to wrapping. Glue down edges. Place books or magazines on top to apply pressure and a have a smooth lid.
Putting It All Together
Place the panels on the exterior side and stack your crates. The items inside the crates will push the panels to the outer facing side. Place lid on top and enjoy. You can place decorative items on top use as a column.
