Face Lighties (Make Yours Unique:)

In this instructables I will be showing you how to make a creation which I call Face Lighties. It makes up as an awesome weekend project for the kids and involves some basic electricity. Simply take a selfie and design something amazing with paint, coloring pencils, crayons, even with the box of your favorite snacks or perhaps anything interesting you find lying around the house. It's time to get creative with Face Lighties!!!

Essentials:

1. Adhesive glue or a glue gun
2. Scissors
3. Craft knife (Children should ask an adult for help)
4. A ruler and pencil
5. Paint/Crayons/Coloring pencils
6. Card from a cereal box
7. A piece of cardboard (At least 12 cm wide and 7 cm long)
8. A piece of plastic
9. 9-12 Volt LED lights (Preferably different colors)
10. 9 Volt battery
11. 9 Volt battery connector
12. A switch (ON/OFF)
13. A rubber band

My Ideas:

1. A box of my favorite biscuits
2. A Toilet roll
3. A metallic circle with a hole inside

NOTE: All numbers are measured in centimetres.

Draw out the measurements of the battery compartment and glue the pieces together. Insert the 9 Volt battery and it should fit snugly inside, then glue an LED light to the bottom center of the battery compartment.

Take a selfie and pull a funny face if you like! Now make the dimensions of your face but ensure its larger than 3 cm wide and 5 cm long. Be aware that the TOP shape is the top flap of the cap.

NOTE: A little trick I used to create the chin of the face was to firstly make a dot where the bottom center of the head is. Secondly I measured 1.5 cm vertically downwards and made another dot. Lastly, I joined both sides of the face down to the bottom dot to make an evenly shaped chin.

Bring out your artistic side and begin adding features to the other parts of the head but ensure you cut out a piece from the back of the head; for a switch that would be added later.

Bring out the face cut out, add some features and glue a mouth shaped plastic piece to the other side of the mouth. Then glue the face to the battery container so that the LED light would be directly above the mouth hole and the battery container should be glued to the left side of the face. After, connect a second LED light to the first LED light.

NOTE: An easy way of connecting wires is by simply twisting the metal shiny part around the metal shiny part of the other wire then stick tape on exposed wires to avoid unwanted contact with other wires

Make dimensions of the cap (your wears could be entirely different) then add some details and colors to it.

To create the holder indicate with a straight line (3 cm away) where the card folds back so the battery can be freely inserted or removed from its compartment. Then use a hole puncher or screwdriver to make 2 holes to the other partition. After, cut the rubber band to a short length (4-6 cm) and glue it inside the 2 holes.

Take the front piece of the cap and make a hole for the second LED light. I decided to attach a piece of metal for a cool look!

After this, glue it above the face.

It's time for the connections!

No need to spend hours figuring out how to connect everything together as I created a child friendly connection diagram for easy understanding. Once you've got it all connected test it out!

Glue the remaining parts of the head and cap together

It's finally completed!

Show it off to your friends and family and have fun with your new Face Lighties!!!
