Environmentally Friendly Bridge
Hey! I am Andres going into 9th and I am presenting what I created for the MAKE IT BRIDGE CHALLENGE! I created a bridge that combines innovation with the environment. Now everyone who passes a bridge wants it to be pleasant for the eye, calm, and just overall relaxing. My goal was to combine that with functionality, practicality, and eco friendliness. Here are my steps of getting there.
Supplies
- steel structure
- impervious concrete for the first layer supporting the bridge
- grass
- wood bench
- concrete for the ramp
- brick

The Beginning of My Project.
At the beginning of my project, I was extremely passionate about the process of creating my bridge. So passionate, I didn't read all the directions. Sadly, I made the mistake of creating a bridge for automobiles, but after checking my work I found that the challenge was only open to pedestrian types of bridges. The next step is how I fixed that mistake.
THE SOLUTION
Knowing the huge mistake I made, I decided to use the same structure but change the platform. So I redesigned the bridge to be eco friendly, safe, and interesting. After four hours of fixing and deleting, I came up with the second image above. I added multiple details to help with the design like benches, a background, and symmetry. But I didn't feel confident because it seemed to be stubby, short, and unrealistic.
The Final Step
Implementing the ramp and elongating the bridge made it realistic and practical. I removed the trees due to the amount of money and maintenance it would take to install and tend them. I decided to put grass on the bridge to make it more eco friendly but also give it a radical design. Overall this challenge was an amazing way for me to use imagination to overcome real world problems. THANK YOU
