Egg in the Hole
The concept of cooking an egg in a piece of toast just sounds fancy! It isn't like other "fancy" recipies though and is extremly simple. Get the right start to your day with a tasty egg and buttered toast combo.
Ingredients and Tools
This recipe makes about one serving.
Ingredients:
- 1 Egg
- Butter (about 1 teaspoon)
- 1 slice of Bread
Tools:
- Pan
- Wide Mouth Mason Jar or a similarly sized cookie cutter
Make the Hole
Using a wide mouth Mason jar cut a circle out of the center of the bread. Press down firmly on the jar until the mouth area cuts through the bread. I even twisted it a few times. Alternatively you could you the lid or a similarly sized cookie cutter.
Butter and Toast
Butter one side of the holed bread and put in on the stove (in the pan) buttered side down. Turn the stove on medium-low and let the bread toast for a minute or two. When you think the underside has turned golden take the bread out of the pan.
Add the Egg
With the half toasted bread off to the side put some butter into the pan (a little less than a teaspoon works fine). Turn the flame down a little and put the bread back into the pan, toasted side up. Immediately crack the egg into the hole. Try to keep the yolk intact.
Let the egg cook until the whites are white and opaque before continuing.
Flip!
When the egg whites are opaque flip the egg and toast over. Cook this for another minute or until you think it is fully cooked. Then remove it from the stove and plate your breakfast.
Breakfast Is Served
Congratulations, you just cooked a classic breakfast! Now if you want you can throw some sausage on the stove, add some fruit salad, or dish out some condiments. Then eat and enjoy your nutritious breakfast!
