Supplies
You’ll Need
- Empty Clorox bottle
- Embroidery paint in various colors
- Craft knife or scissors
- Pencil
- Decorative ribbon
- Hot glue gun
- Soil and plant of your choice
- Mandala template (optional)
Cleaning the Bottle
Ensure the bottle is completely empty. Wash the bottle thoroughly with soap and water to remove any chlorine residue. Rinse thoroughly and let it dry.
Preparing and Cutting the Bottle
-Determine the height of your planter based on the plant you’ll be using. With a pencil, mark a line around the bottle at the desired height.
-Using the craft knife, cut along the line with smooth movements and steady pressure to achieve an even edge.
Drainage Holes
Make several holes at the bottom of the bottle with the craft knife to allow proper drainage and prevent the plant's roots from being damaged by excess water.
Designing the Mandala
Draw a sketch of the mandala on the surface of the bottle that inspires you the most. You can use a mandala template to maintain symmetry or mark circles and guide lines to ensure your design flows harmoniously.
Applying Embroidery Paint
-Apply the embroidery paint directly onto the mandala design, allowing the relief and colors to come to life. Start from the center and work your way outward, applying paint in sections to avoid smudging or unwanted mixing.
-It’s ideal to let each section dry slightly before continuing. This way, the strokes will stand out, and you will achieve a clean, detailed design
Complete Drying
Place the bottle in a safe spot and let it dry completely. The embroidery paint typically takes up to three hours to dry completely, depending on the type.
Decorative Ribbon
Add decorative ribbon to the top edge and base of the bottle, securing it with hot glue to give your planter an elegant and attractive finishing touch.
Planting
-Fill the bottom of the planter with suitable soil for the chosen plant, ensuring there is enough space for its roots.
-Make a small hole in the center of the soil, place the plant, and adjust the soil around it to secure it well.
-Water gently, checking that the water drains properly through the holes you made in the base.
Excellent job on your planter! You have transformed a disposable object into a unique decorative piece for your home. May this experience inspire many more creations that highlight the beauty of sustainability. Keep creating and exploring!
