Easy Paper Envelope
Being a card maker, I have many tools for making envelopes. However, I've wanted to make my own envelope for a little while now. With this tutorial you can make your own for any occasion you need. The dimensions given make the perfect envelope for a check or anything of similar size (or slightly larger).
Enjoy!
Supplies
For this envelope you will need:
- Paper
- Scissors
- Glue (stick glue preferably)
- Pencil
- Ruler
Design
The first thing you start with is always the design. For the envelope I made, which fits a check, the measurements are above in the second image. If you want to make a different sized envelope the rule of thumb is that the top and bottom flaps are a little less than half the length of the side flaps.
Using the ruler and a pencil draw out your envelope design. (Solid lines cut, dashed lines fold)
Cut
Once you have your design, cut on the solid lines. As mentioned in the last step, you will cut along the solid lines and fold along the dotted ones.
Fold and Glue
This is the last step. Fold all the flaps in to make sure they all fit. Then unfold the top and bottom ones. Glue the side flaps together and apply glue where they overlap. Press down on along the glued area to ensure it dries properly. Then fold and glue the bottom flap to the side flaps. Finally, fold the top flap down, but don't glue it.
Now that your envelope is finished, put something in it and mail it off!
Tip:
Before putting in the mail, check with your local mail carriers to make sure it is able to be mailed.
