Easy Homemade Pens With a Can

Do you want to draw or do calligraphy but don't have a pen? If you want to practice and experiment in an easy and cheap way, take a look at this tutorial.

Today I want to share this project. It is about these pens, they are made from recycled cans and a simple stick. I think that it is a very good way to create paintings, calligraphy, romantic letters... anyway, whatever you want.

¿Quieres dibujar o hacer caligrafía pero no tienes una pluma? Si quieres practicar y experimentar de una manera fácil y barata, echa un vistazo a este tutorial.

Hoy quiero compartir este proyecto. Se trata de estas plumas, están hechas a partir de latas recicladas y un palo. Creo que es una buena forma de crear dibujos, caligrafía, cartas románticas... en fin, lo que tú quieras.

Common supplies:

• Empty can.
• Scissors, cutter, ruler, tape, marker.

For the first pen:

• Pliers.
• Ice cream stick.
• Chopsticks.

For the second pen:

• Round stick.

Materiales comunes:

• Lata vacía.
• Tijeras, cúter, regla, cinta, rotulador.

Para la primera pluma:

• Tenazas.
• Palo de polo.
• palillos chinos.

Para la segunda pluma:

• Palo redondo.

At first, we will take a empty soda can or beer can, we will wash it very well inside and we well let it dry. After that, cut with cutter in both edges. Finally, make a cut in the middle to get a rectangle.

Al principio cogeremos una lata vacía de refresco o cerveza, la lavaremos muy bien por dentro y la dejaremos secar bien. Después de eso, cortamos con el cúter los dos bordes. Finalmente, haremos un corte en el medio para obtener un rectángulo.

To do the first pen we need 6cm x 5cm rectangle. To cut it we will put the ruler in each line and pass the cutter once. We will fold and it will cut alone.

Para hacer la primera pluma necesitamos un rectángulo de 6cm x 5cm. Para cortarlo pondremos la regla en cada línea y pasaremos el cúter una vez. Doblaremos y se cortará solo.

Now we are going to fold the rectangle by the long side (6cm). After, we will fold it again like in the pictures. It is important that don't press too much.

Ahora vamos a doblar el rectángulo por el lado largo (6cm). Después, volveremos a doblar por el mismo lado como en las imágenes. Es importante no presionar mucho.

We will mark the middle of 5cm side (the opened side) and we will cut a little, approximately 2mm. After that, we will cut from the bottom to the 2mm cut.

Marcaremos la mitad del lado de los 5cmm (el lado que queda abierto) y cortaremos un poco, aproximadamente 2mm. Después de eso, cortaremos desde abajo hasta el corte de los 2mm.

We are going to cut the stick with the same measure as what we just cut. (See the picture)

Take your pliers and fold the protrunding side.

Coge las tenazas y dobla el lado saliente.

If you want a specific measure of the tip, measure it and cut in diagonal. This tip measures 5mm. Make sure that the tip is straight.

Si quieres una medida específica de la punta, mídela y corta en diagonal. Esta punta mide 5mm. Asegúrate de que la punta esté recta.

Insert the stick in the groove and tape it. After that, tape the chopsticks to make a more confortable handle.

Inserta el palo en la ranura y pégalo con cinta. Después de eso, pega con cinta los palillos chinos para hacer un mango más cómodo.

Take a rectangle of aproximately and fold it by the shorter side. It doesn't mind if it is not perfect.

Coge un rectángulo de aproximadamente 6cm x 4cm y dóblalo por el lado corto. No importa si no está perfecto.

Draw this silouette and cut it. The top part has to be straight and it has to curve as it goes down.

Dibuja esta silueta y córtala. La parte de arriba tiene que estar recta y tiene que ir curvándose hacia abajo.

Put the handle into the hole below and tape it.

Mete en el hueco de abajo el mango y pégalo con cinta.

This is an optional step, if you try your pen and it scratches the paper, sand it a little with a nails file. You can sand the both pens.

Este es un paso opcional, si pruebas tu pluma y esta raspa el papel, líjala un poco con una lima de uñas. Puedes lijar las dos plumas.

To catch the ink, the pen must be immersed for a few seconds on the ink. Now it's time to try it and experiment.
