Dinosaur Jungle Realistic Diorama Great for Kids and Adults Low Budget With Resin River With Waterfall

Front.jpg

Great holiday activity to do with your family great for small kids and yet very realistic dinosaur diorama.

Hi I'm Oscar and I'm 13 in year 9

I got the idea to do this when I was on holiday when I went in a stationary store selling tones of epic diorama materials so I wanted to make a dinosaur scene. I love dinosaurs and I have lots of toys (who doesn't) so I got to work...🌴🦕🦖

Supplies

Close brach.jpg

I bought most of it on amazon and some on holiday so I will put links for everything.

Trees These is a cool multi pack of trees that are quite cheap but work well for the job.

Plants This is a big pack but give it a cool prehistoric look. You can also use bushes like I have.

Grass this is foam flock its not what I used but is better In my opinion. You can also use Dirt for different effects around the trees. You can also get some sand for the river but its pricey and you have to buy lots so your better of getting it form your local beach but here's some sand from amazon.

Stones again not what I specifically use but these look very cool you can always get rocks from your garden....

Resin This is for a river like mine you dont need to use resin blue paint works fine but resin just gives it that realism

Clay This is useful for the texture of the diorama I did not use this specific one but It dries white which is easier to paint on (you can get any colour).

You can use any supplier for these things these are just suggestions and you can also leave them out.

you will also need

  • PVA Glue
  • A Hot glue Gun
  • Wood Chips or rocks for background
  • 2 pieces of wood or one depending if you want a back to your diorama 60 Cm /30 Cm or however big you want it
  • Spare wooden blocks for attaching and some suitable screws see step 1
  • Some clear packaging plastic see step 9
  • Acrylic paint or equivalent In green brown blue and grey I used spray paint for grey as it was fiddly

And that's everything except wait I'm missing somthing... Ahh yes the dinosaurs any will do! I didn't attach them so they could be reposed. Remember less dinosaurs can be more.

Attaching the Pieces of Wood

I dont have any pictures for this stage but as you can see I used wooden blocks to screw in too to attach the 2 pieces of wood. You can use any means you want as long as you can hide it.

Note: you can miss out the back and just have the bottom piece.

Marking Out Where You Want Things

Its a good idea to mark out where everything is going to go and position you dinosaurs around it. Its a good idea to take a photo of this!

Backdrop Design

1st clay.jpg
First cliff.jpg

I new my local park had some wood chips so I borrowed a few for the cliff these were perfect as they looked like rocks (you could just use rocks)

So I started to pile them up and stick them to the back with hot glue gun and built the rough area for the waterfall and then worked on the rest.

I also used the clay to create the landscape of where I wanted things to be the river and a few mounds here and there.

Tip use a dinosaur to put footprints in some clay It looks great.

I then painted them grey using spray paint as there were lots of cracks in the cliff this also gave a good primer for the clay.

Then with a mixture of blue and white paint I painted the background you could paint it any colour.

Tree Time

Clay with trees and dinos.jpg

I grabbed my trust drill and started drilling some holes for the trees. I worked out where I wanted them in relation to the dinosaurs and also the tallest at the back and smallest at the front. I then did the same for the plants and also positions for big rocks (can add smaller ones later)

! Dont Stick Anything Down Yet ! Wait until step 7.

Painting Time

Painted.jpg

I Painted the Flat open Bits brown and the hilly bits brown or grey but its completely up to you what colour you want.

Sandy Muddy and Grassy

Grass dirt.jpg

Next I used PVA to paint all the base and used the grass dirt to cover the land and sand and small stones for the river.

Tree Time V2

No resin done.jpg

Next Its time to put the trees and plants back in using glue gun and still using the dinosaurs for comparison I also added bushes on the cliffs for some colour.

Resin

Next for the resin I used masking tape to cover the front so to not spill out and then filled it up 3mm every 24 hours and then its nearly done just one more step.

Water Fall

To make the water fall use a clear piece of packaging plastic and cut it to size. Then use hot glue to make some wobbly lines to make a trickling effect. I then made a foam mound at the bottom using hot glue for some stability.

Thanks So Much
