Deep Dish Apple-Cinnamon Dessert Pizza
Decadent, warm, oozie, melt-in-your-mouth dessert pizza!! Yes, it IS pizza because it is made with pizza dough and you can for sure cut it like one.
At first glance, you may think this is a cinnamon roll. It isn't. This is a true dessert pizza. And what really makes it special is the addition of granny smith apples. So you could basically call this, an apple pie cinnamon roll pizza???
You know I sure can't decide. Why don't don't YOU give it a try and give it a good name? ;) But anyways, here we are, let me show you how to make it. It is very simple!
Materials You Will Need
- Pre-made Pizza dough. (hey you can make your own if you want to. I got my BOGO at Publix) but if you want to make from scratch this is a good recipe. But you know, when it comes to dessert.. and I've already slaved over the stove for dinner, lets do something fast shall we? ;)
- 1/2 cup of butter at room temperature
- 1 cup of brown sugar. Save 1/4th for later
- 1/2 cup of old fashioned oats
- 4 heaping teaspoons of cinnamon. (heaping means be generous)
For Cream Cheese Glaze:
- 4 tablespoons of UN-salted butter at room temperature
- 4 tablespoons of cream cheese at room temperature.
- 3/4 cup of powdered sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon of vanilla extract
Finishing touches
Granny Smith apple sliced thin
Line the Pan With Dough
Take out your dough and mess with it to make it more easy to work with. You may need to powder your hands with some flour to spread the dough on the bottom of the pan evenly. Well... make it as even as you can, you're not a robot.
Let it rest in the pan for at least 10 minutes.
Make Butter Cinnamon Sugar Spread
Grab a small or medium sized bowl. Combine the softened butter, brown sugar, oats and cinnamon until well incorporated. You don't need a blender for this, just use a good spoon or even your hands.
set aside. We'll get back to you later ~
To Make the Glaze
You will need a mixer for this part...
Beat together UN-salted softened butter and cream cheese on medium speed for about 1 minute. Scrape the sides to make sure everything is incorporated.
Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract until well mixed and almost runny.
It's done. Drain into a cup that can be microwaved. This will eventually top your lovely pizza. It's like the cheese but in sugar form!!
Spread Out Cinnamon Topping
By now the crust will have risen. You may even be a bit scared... it rose to almost the rim! Now's the time to relax....it's all good, this is Deep Dish action going on here!
Spread the cinnamon glaze on the top of your pizza dough. It should be very malleable and fairly easy to spread around.
Dice Some Apples
taking some notes from Granny (aka granny smith) the queen of apple pie... I used a granny smith apple to top the cinnamon spread. Make sure the apple is peeled first.
Then elegantly (or lazily, if it's been a long day) decorate your cinnamon spread with the apple pieces.
Top Some Moreee
Now it's time to top your pie with deliciousness. Use the remaining 1/4 cup of brown sugar to top the apples. You can even add extra melted butter or cinnamon. It's really up to you. For me, I added more of everything. ahhh my hips!
BAKE!!
Set your oven to 400 degrees. Once reached, bake your delicious dessert PIZZA. Set the timer to about 20 minutes because it's deep dish so it may need some extra time. I would say about 20-25 minutes.
Then you open the oven and smell that delicious aroma. If the apples seem darker and almost caramelized, then you are READY.
Drizzle Glaze
Heat the cream cheese glaze in the microwave for about 15 seconds. This is just to get it soft so it can drizzle nice and beautiful over your creation
Eat and EAT
Wait about 3 minutes for it to cool then use a knife or pizza cutter to get yourself a pretty slice.
Easy, simple, and O' so GOOD. We even used lower fat substitutes for some of the ingredients and it turned out awesome! Highly recommended! Please take pics!! Eat and enjoy!
