DJI Remote Land-yard
When I use my drone outside I sometimes wish I had a land-yard for the remote. I helps unfold the drone with two hands free and it provides an extra safety layer. But with prices being a bit higher in my region plus the shipping cost I thought I could make my own cheaper... or even free?
I started searching for materials to recycle and ended up finding the right things!
If you like this project and have an idea to improve my design please write a comment. Thanks!
Supplies
I think I picked a good selection of materials I didn't use.
Those were:
- Some old backpack straps
- A sunglasses strap
- And the perfect sized screws from my box of screws (I don't really know the size I just tried them all : )
- I later also added two washers to keep the strap in place
I also used a needle and thread to sew the parts together
I didn't know at all how to sew so I saw this video: https://youtu.be/EZngDWBk0xE?feature=shared
The parts were all plastic-like so I used a lighter to melt the ends (always be careful with fire thought!)
Backpack Straps
The first thing I did was sew the two backpack straps to make a long one. I sewed a square and an x inside of it for extra safety!
Then I tried to test its strength bu pulling the straps apart but it survived so I continued the project.
If you're following along make sure to check your land-yards strength every now and then as the main function of it is to hold the remote in place.
Connecting Two Pieces
After cutting the sunglasses strap in half I decided that the best way for me to attach it was the following:
- I cut two holes on each end of the black strap
- I then tied a knot on the small straps after passing each one through a hole
- For extra safety I also sewed around and inside the small straps
- For aesthetic purposes I folded the extra part of the black strap and sewed it in place
I tried my best explaining the process but you can check the images for extra detail! (after all that's why they say a picture worth a thousand words!)
Aesthetic Purposes
Also for aesthetic purposes I later sewed the corners of its end. I think it looks cooler that way and definitely more professional.
Finishing Details and Test
It was time to test the result so I just screwed the land-yard in place and started shaking it. It ended up dropping so I added two washers for extra stability. It worked perfectly! (I don't have a picture of this)
At the end I think it turned actually good and its one of the few thing I made I'll actually use. If you have the materials I totally recommend this.
Even thought its not the same quality as the ones online it saved me a total of 23 euros so I think it was totally worth it!
