DIY Wire Wrapped Crescent Moon Pendant
Posting an ible after so long. I wish I had the time and energy to post ibles more often but I'm glad I could spare a little time to finally work on something and publish this after a while.
This wire pendant is a beginner firendly project and doesn't require too many supplies. If you have th basic jewelry making tools (pliers and wire), you can give this a try. In today's ible, I'll show you how to make a simple and beautiful crescent moon pendant from wire. I tried to break down the steps to make it easier to understand but if you still have difficulty understanding any steps, please feel free to ask questions in teh comments below.
So, let's check out the tutorial!
Things You'll Need
To make the crescent moon pendant, you'll need the following materials and tools
- Craft wire - 12 gauge or 14 gauge
- Craft pliers - cutting, looping, and flat nose
- Small faux pearl beards
- Beading wire - 26 gauge
- Ruler
- Crescent moon template
- Hammer
Download the crescent moon template from this step. I used the medium moon template to make the pendant in the picture.

Crafting the Crescent Base
Take the wire bundle and start by creating a small loop at the open end of the wire. Use the smallest part (outer edge) of the looping pliers to create the loop. Circle the wire around the loop once to create a twirl pattern.
Hold the twirl pattern of the wire on the twirl part of the template. Bend the wire along the inside (small side) of the crescent moon outline.
Use the flat nose pliers to create the bend on the bottom side of the crescent moon. Press the bent part with the flat nose pliers to give it a nice finishing.
Now, bend the wire along the backside (wide side) of the crescent moon outline.
After reaching the top side of the crescent moon outline, keep enough wire to form the loop on the top side and then cut off the wire from the bundle. Use looping pliers to create the top loop.
The crescent moon base is ready.
Crafting the S Shaped Patterns
If you're using the medium size crescent moon outline from the template, in that case, cut a 12 cm piece of wire. Create a small loop at one end of the wire and then create another small loop at the other end of the but this time, circle the loop to the opposite direction of the previous one.
Circle the wire around both loops but keep 1 twirl pattern slightly bigger than the other one.
After creating the wire S shape, place it inside the crescent moon base to check if it fits nicely. If not, then adjust the twirl parts with the flat nose pliers to make sure that at least 3 points of the S shape are adjacent to the moon base.
Similarly, craft another wire S shape and again, check if it fits inside the base.
Both S-shaped wire pieces should fit inside the wire crescent moon base nicely.
Hammering the Crafted Pieces
Place the 3 crafted wire pieces (crescent moon base and the 2 S-shaped patterns) on a flat, hard, and even surface.
Use a hammer to flatten the wire pieces. Hammering the wire will give them a smooth and sturdy finishing.
After hammering all 3 pieces, place the S-shaped pieces inside the moon base to check again.
Attaching the S Shaped Pieces With the Base
Cut out a small piece of beading wire. Place an S-shaped piece inside the moon base and select an adjacent point to coil the wire. Simply, coil the adjacent parts nicely and tightly 3 or 4 times. Cut off the extra wire if required.
Coil 1 or 2 more adjacent points to secure the S-shaped piece inside the moon base.
Similarly, attach the other S-shaped piece inside the moon base.
make sure to coil the S-shaped pieces firmly and neatly.
Attaching the Beads
Select beads to fill the small gaps inside (top, bottom, and middle) the crescent moon outline.
Attaching the bottom bead: Coil a beading wire around a band of the moon base and then insert a bead through the open end of the wire. then, coil the open end of the wire around the opposite band to secure the bead. Cut off extra wire after coiling the wire 3 or 4 times.
Attaching the middle bead: Coil a piece of beading wire around the backside band (between the 2 S-shaped pieces) of the moon outline. Coil the wire 3 or 4 times and then insert a bead into it through the open end. Coil the other end of the wire around the same side, keeping the bead inside (and between the S-shaped pieces) moon outline.
Attaching the middle bead: Attach the top bead as same as we attached the bottom bead but instead of cutting the wire after securing the bead, we will coil the wire around the top side of the moon layout to join the top open end. Cut off extra wire after securing the top side of the wire crescent moon base.
Attaching the Pendant With a Chain
You can insert a chain or string directly through the top loop of the wire crescent moon pendant. But, if the chain or string you're using is too thick, you can attach the large jump ring with the top loop and then attach the chain or string to complete the craft.
And that's it! This crescent moon pendant is one of my best-selling products and absolutely love crafting it, every time. I really hope you enjoyed the tutorial and if you do give it a try, please share e picture of the final project with me, would love to see your version of the wire crescent moon pendant.
Happy crafting!
