DIY Twisted Audio Cable (Made From Telephone Wires)

Today I'm going to show you how to make a twisted audio cable connected to two silver plated audio jacks. The deign will amaze your eyes simply because of the cable's colorful spiral wire patterns. The materials are very common, all you need is a long piece of telephone wire (3 wires in one insulation), suctioned bench vise, manual drill, pliers and 2 pieces of silver plated male audio jack.

This cable is designed for short lengths only, it isn't advisable to build a longer version of it, the wire's spiral pattern will act as a coil thus it will creating an inductance effect, this would cause a small amount interference between two channels.

Every tool and material can easily be found in any hardware or electronic store (ACE Hardware & RadioShack).

Tools:
- Manual Drill

Materials:
- Telephone wire (3 wires in one insulation)
- 3.5 Male Stereo Jack (2 pcs.)
- Fish Tank Tube (vinyl tubing)
- Heat Shrink Tubing

It's now time to measure your wires to your desired measurements. After measuring them, cut the wires using your pliers or scissors. Don't forget to remove the wires's outer insulation, all you need are the individuals.

There should be three wires per terminal. Later there will be a total of 9 individual wires twisted together forming one thick wire.

I recommend that you use a manual drill instead of the electric one since you will have more control of the number of twists of your wire. I also recommend that you cover both ends of the three wires using a short pice of vinyl tubing (fish tank tube) so that the drill will have more grip of the wires. You could use a miniature bench vise or simply ask assistance from someone to hold the other end of the wires.

Make three cumulative wires. Later on you will merge three of the previously twisted wires together to form one thick wire. 

Now that you have finished twisting the three wires together and making 3 more of it, now is the time to repeat the process, but this time you will twist the previously twisted wires together to form one thick and stylish wire.  

After forming a thick strand of wire, you will have to splice them using your scissors then connect them together. Please follow the color code to avoid malfunctioning.

Solder the wires to the audio jacks. I advise you to add some heat shrink tubing to avoid short circuits. After finishing everything, screw the audio jack together.

Enjoy your audiophile looking twisted audio cables. Just plug it into any MP3 player going to your amplifier of speakers.
