Reposition & Mark
Start with the sweater on and move it down to a comfortable off-the-shoulder position. Use your safety pin to mark the spot at the front where you’ll start stitching.
If you have a lighter color sweater, you can use a pencil or pen to mark this spot. However, I recommend the safety pin to avoid leaving marks.
Stitch Opening
Use your needle and thread to create a knot at the spot you marked with the safety pin. Then stitch downward to bond the two sides of the sweater together, folding the layers over and scrunching the material upward as you go. This will create the ruched effect.
Continue the stitching, folding and scrunching process until you reach the bottom.
Trim Excess Thread
Once you reach the bottom, tie a knot to secure the scrunched material and trim the excess thread.
All Done!
Just a few minutes later, you have an off the shoulder ruched sweater that has much more personality than the plain cardigan it used to be. DIY clothing hacks, for the win!
