Hi everyone!

KATAMINO is a puzzle game with 500 challenges of progressive difficulty, and also offers a strategic game challenge for two players. It is a building game that helps children enhance their thinking capabilities to three levels up and understanding the basics of geometry. An intelligent activity for growing intelligent minds.

In this project, Iā€™m gonna show you how to make a very cool KATAMINO POCKET Board Game out of Popsicle sticks.

You can find all the materials at your local arts & crafts store.

Template (A4 format, 2 Page) can be downloaded at the end of this Instructable.

Video Tutorial:

Supplies

- Popsicle sticks: size 6" length

- Ruler with centimeters

- Ballpoint pen or pencil

- Wood glue

- Utility knife

- Abrasive sandpaper (approximately 180 grit)

- Coping saw

- Paint brush and assorted colors

- Binder clips

Let's get making!

Marking and Cutting

Take 8 Popsicle sticks and mark out the center line then cut in half lengthwise with a utility knife. CAUTION! Using a sharp tool on a small object is problematic.

Gluing

Glue 4 slats together, carefully glue each slat one at a time (4 layer sticks with an 8.5mm overall thickness).

Clamps are important because most of the Popsicle sticks aren't flat, so if you don't clamp them when you glue them together your sticks won't hold together very well. So I clamped them with binder clips.

Let this sit to dry!

1. Making the Back panel

The back panel is 2 layer thick.

Take 8 popsicle sticks, start by cutting sticks down to 132(mm) so they have two flat ends.We are going to carefully glue the 4 flat end sticks side by side.

You need 8 sticks for the back panel (4 for the front, 4 for the back).

Draw a 5x13 square grid on the back panel as shown.

2. Making the Frame

For the frame you are going to need to cut:

  • 1 44x11(mm) stick for the top frame
  • 1 64x9(mm) stick for the bottom frame
  • 2 123x10(mm) sticks with slots for the side frames

All the frames are 2 layer thick.

Draw as shown, carefully cut out 20 slots (10 for the right frame, 10 for the left frame).

3. Making the separating rod(the slider)

The slider is 4 layer sticks.

Draw and cut as shown.
