DIY How to Make a Felt Ghost Plush – Halloween Decorations – Bravo Dada! Sewing Tutorial
Hi everyone!
In this sewing tutorial I’m going to show you how to sew a felt fabric ghost plush for your Halloween home decorations. This cute ghost softie is perfect to hang around your house and makes a great gift for family and friends as well. Happy Halloween! 🎃🦇
Important note: I use the metric system and make the exact conversion from cm to inches in the hope of helping. Please adapt these measurements to your ruler.
Hope you enjoy this tutorial! 👻🍬
Supplies
NOTE: Dimensions in inches are approximated.
The materials and techniques I used are the ones I thought were the best for me as a self-taught creative seamstress. It doesn’t mean they are the best for you, so feel free to use your creativity and make it your own! You can adjust the measurements as you like and also add other features.
The felt ghost plush size is approximately 13cm | 5.1” x 12cm | 4.7”.

Print and Cut Out Your Template
- Print your ghost template (actual size).
- Cut out your template, with paper cutting scissors, using the outer line as your cutting guide.
- Make sure to cut out the eyes and the mouth too.
- The felt ghost plush size is approximately 13cm | 5.1” x 12cm | 4.7”.
Draw the Template on the Felt Fabrics and Cut Them Out
- Use your template and a heat erasable pen to draw the ghost shape on your white felt fabric. You will need one for the front and one for the back of your ghost plush.
- Draw the eyes and the mouth only on the piece that will be the front of your ghost plush.
- Draw another ghost shape on the black felt piece, using a white fabric chalk marker.
- Cut out your felt fabrics, as shown in the images.
Laser Cut (Optional)
- Tip: If you own or have access to a laser machine, this is a quick and easy project to laser cut.
Cut the Ribbon and Place the Layers of Felt on Top of Each Other
- Cut one piece of black ribbon: 7cm | 2.8” x 1cm | 0.4”.
- Heat seal the ribbon ends using a pocket lighter.
- Mark the middle of your ghost's head and place the folded ribbon on top of the back layer of your ghost, as shown in the images.
- Place the black felt layer on top of the back piece of your ghost plush.
- Then, place the front white felt fabric layer on top of it.
- Clip the felt fabric layers together.
Sew All the Layers Together
- Leave a 3cm | 1.2" gap for filling the felt ghost plush.
- Mark the opening on one of the sides of the felt ghost plush, as shown in the images.
- Adjust the stitch length according to your preferences.
- Use a size 90/14 sewing needle.
- Move the needle to the left and sew the felt ghost plush all the way around with a seam allowance of 0.3cm | 1/8".
- Sew very slowly and, when needed, raise the presser foot and turn the felt fabric to line up its direction (do this only when the needle is down).
- Trim off the excess thread.
Stuff the Felt Ghost Plush
- Stuff your felt ghost plush with polyester hypoallergenic fiberfill or any other material of your choice.
- Use a wooden stick to help stuffing your plush.
Close Up the Opening
- Close up the opening using your sewing machine.
- Trim off the excess thread.
Finished Felt Ghost Plush
Happy sewing! 🥰🪡
