DIY Cheap Hot Plate

Do you need a new hot plate but don’t want to spend a lot of money on it? Well you have come to the right place. I will be making a cheap wooden hot plate. I made mine for $0 because i already had the materials.

Supplies

For this project you will need a jigsaw, scrap wood, sandpaper, Elmers glue, a file, water based wood stain, and a marker.

Prep

The first thing you need to do is print or draw a circle template. Cut out your template and trace it onto the wood.

Now that you have your template drawn onto the wood, you can start cutting. Clamp down the wood to a table or bench. Get your jigsaw and cut out your template. Your template should be all cut out now.

Filing and Sanding

After cutting out the wood it kind of rough. It may not be precisely like a circle. Use your file and make the hot plate into the shape you like. Now take your sandpaper and sand the edges of your hot plate until smooth. Now that the sides are smooth, start sanding the top of the plate.

The hot plate is almost done. Draw a small circle and cut it out. Trace the small circle twice onto the piece of wood. Cut them out with the jigsaw and sand them. Finally, glue them to the bottom of the hot plate.

Stain

The last step is to stain your hot plate. Use a water based stain. Water based stain is ok to use on your hot plate. Dip a rag into the stain and work in the stain. Let it dry for 24 hours. Now your hot plate is done.
