I wanted to make candy buckets for my costume this year for Halloween. I wanted to go for a more vintage pumpkin bucket and I also made a smaller one as well.

Supplies

Supplies used

-Balloon

-Rubber bands

-Paper Mache

-paper

-any craft glue

-paint brushes

-Hot glue

-Paint

-you can use any kind of paint but I used acrylic

-Some form of small string or rope for the handle

Making Your Base Shape

I honestly forgot to take photos of these steps so I will explain to the best of my abilities

Step 1:you will need to take is blowing up your balloon to the desired size you want your candy pale to be.

Step 2 (optional):Once you have your balloon you will then take your rubber bands an carefully put them around the balloon to mold the balloon in a pumpkin shape.

Note- this step was the most stressful out of fear of snapping yourself with the band or popping the balloon

Creating the Shell

This step will show you how to you will make the paper mache layer

step 3: Take your paper and cut them into strips and put them to the side

step 4: in a bowl put your craft glue (you may need to use more than one bottle depending on your balloon size)

step 5: take a strip of paper and submerge it into the glue and have be fully covered

step 6: after you will take your glue strips and begin covering the balloon with the strips

step 7: cover the whole balloon with these strips until you can no longer see the original balloon

step 8: allow it to fully dry in a ventilated area after if needed repeat STEP 6&7 if needed to get the desired thickness

Designing

The photos above show the dried and ready base shape of your bucket

step 9: take a hot glue gun and if you can put it on the low setting if not please be cautious

step 10: use the hot glue to start building out the design that you want. I put a face for mine so i started building out the eyes, mouth and nose

step 11: I then built up the nose in parts as it is coming out more 3d i wanted it to dry through each layer so it doesn't just become one blob

  • my second buckets was just covered with my attempt of eyes, but you can put whatever design you want

Painting and Finishing Up

This is the final stages of this craft

step 12: Take your acrylic paint and just paint and continue your chosen design.

I used orange, brown, red, yellow, and purple paints to paint my bucket. I went for more of a pumpkin so i used orange for the base color and i wanted to add a weathered look to it so i used more browns and reds and yellows to make it look old and worn. Then i used purple and green for the face like the eyes, nose, and mouth.

when i was happy with my craft i then use a drill to put holes on the sides to put the rope as the handle.

you can use a knife or scissors to make the hole as well.

I used old shoelaces as my handle, i ran it through the holes and knotted both ends so it stayed put.

Then that is it, your craft is done and ready for you to use this holiday season

Good job you made it!
