If you are like me and those expensive switch plates and outlet covers still don’t really match that well, here is another idea. I used mine to match my travertine tiles. Simple and easy.

Supplies

Your existing switch plates and outlet covers removed
Large cardboard for work space, best to work outside
spray paint that is sticky and not rapid drying ( this will be your base color, I used white or cream on mine)
grout that matches or coordinates with your tiles
polyurethane or lacquer spray

Let’s Get Started

Make sure your switch plates and outlet covers are clean and dry so paint will stick. If might not stick, lightly sand them first and wipe sanding dust away.
Lay covers out on your workspace to spray paint. Immediately sprinkle with grout using the wet paint as the adherent. I used multiple shades of grout, since my travertine had multiple shades of color. Do not disturb. Once fully dry, spray with poly to keep it all in place. If you need another layer of grout, use the poly step to adhere more, then dry and coat again.
Now you have customized covers to match your grout!
