Custom Paint Splattered Shoes
Hello everyone, In this instructable I will be showing you how to make custom paint splattered Adidas Stan Smiths. This can be done on any pair of shoes realistically but it works the best on shoes like this that have a leather exterior.
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
In order to do this project you will need the following materials:
1) Bleach / Acetone
2) Paper towel or cotton balls
3) Tape ( Preferably painters tape but any tape will work fine )
4) Paint
5) Paintbrushes ( If you cant find one and don't want to buy one a stick or branch will work )
6) Black Sharpie
Step 2: Clean Off Your Shoes
For any shoe that you are using you want to make sure you remove any tags. Next you are going to want to take some paper towel and stuff it inside of your shoes to make sure they keep the shape of the shoe. After this is done then take some more paper towel or some cotton balls and soak them in your bleach or acetone. Next proceed to rub the outer surface of the shoes to get off all grime and built up dirt. As a safety precaution make sure to wear gloves to protect your hands while doing this.
Step 3: Unlace and Clean
Now after cleaning the outer surface of the shoe you are going to want to unlace the shoes and do the same thing to the tongue and laces to get them back to their original color. After you do this let the shoes sit and dry for approximately 5-10 minutes.
Step 4: Tape Off Areas
You are now going to want to grab your tape and section off the areas that you don't want the paint to hit. You can rip or cut the tape into the proper shape for each desired area. If you have any features you want to add later or if you are thinking of adding a separate design, tape off the area as well.
Step 5: Painting
I would recommend doing this outdoors so that the paint does not get on anything. Find something to hold the paint, I used 2 plastic cups, and set the shoes down on a flat surface. Next grab your brushes and dip them into your paint. Now from here the method you use to splatter is up to you. You can flick the brush at the shoes to get a true splatter pattern or you can dab it on and get more of a splotch like look. I chose to do a mixture of both so you can see longer splatters and some splotches scattered around the entire shoe. After you finish painting them bring them inside and set them on some paper towel or a piece of cardboard and let them dry COMPLETELY. This may take roughly around 2-3 hours. Keep checking periodically and make sure that they are fully dry before you touch or move them.
Optional Step 6: Custom Tweaks
This is an optional step if you want to personalize them anymore. I took a sharpie and colored the laces black as well as the lace holes on the shoe and the surrounding area. Feel free to get creative with what you want to do and make it your own.
Step 7: Show Them Off
Once you re-lace your new custom shoes wear them around and show them off to your friends. Hope you liked this instructable, leave a like or comment. Thank you and enjoy your new shoes!
