Custom Book Case
The School Back Pack a very dangerous place for books. With so much crammed into a little space it is almost guaranteed any book will get bent, folded, or torn. I have always hated the risk of putting a book in my bookbag. So I created a solution, a hard plastic case for any book.
Supplies
3d Printer
Filament (I used pla)
Fusion 360 (to customize the size)
A Book (or similar object)
Measure Your Book
Take whatever book or similar object you want a case for and record its height, width, and length.
Edit Fusion Model
Fusion makes this part really easy. All you have to do is edit the dimensions of the original box and fusion will make the case based off your dimensions. Double click the first step "Book Dimensions" in bottom left corner then the dimensions will pop up on the right side. Note the "+0.3" in the dimensions. That is the built in tolerance so leave it alone. Use the .f3d file to edit the dimensions. However if you happen to have a book roughly 2.2cm by 14.6cm by 22.1cm then the .stl file is ready for you.
3d Print
The box can be very challenging for some printers. You can't use supports for the whole box because of the nature of the design. You have to have good bridging. If needed you could add a little support material to the opening end of the box. The hinge is ready to go off the printing bed. Just be VERY careful when removing the supports for the hinge. After that you should be ready to load up your protected book into the backpack.
Bonus
Why have a boring 1 color plastic look when you could liven it up. If you print in white it makes it really easy to paint your case to give it a cool look. You could add any theme you like. I'm not that artistic but I imagine some could come up with cool stuff. Make whatever your heart desires and have a Great day!
