Crispy Fried Bacon Onion Rings--No Breading.

bacon rings 9.jpg
I love bacon and onion rings and one day while trying out my new fryer I put the two together, replacing the breading on the onion rings with bacon.  The result has become a family favorite, even pleasing my wife who does not care for onion rings. The bacon makes an awesome crispy shell and onion flavors seem stronger without breading. The onion cooks more, so the onions don't pull out with the first bite like they seem to do when I just bread them.

What You Will Need.

 Bacon
Onions                                                                                                                                                                                            Toothpicks                                                                                                                                                                                                   Oil                                                                                                                                                                                                             Fryer or a vessel large enough to deep fry in.

Prep Work.

Add oil to your fryer and set it to 375 degrees.  While the oil heats up you have time to prep your onion rings. Slice your onions, I like a thick cut roughly 1/2 in.  Separate the onion slices into individual rings. Wrap the rings with a slice of bacon and pin the end in place with a toothpick.  The larger rings may need two slices of bacon.

Fry Your Onions

Use caution when frying to avoid burns.                                                                                                                                                                                                        Put your onion rings in the hot oil and fry for 6 minutes or until desired level of crispiness is achieved.

Now it's time to enjoy the results.  Remove the toothpicks and dish up.  I like them as they are but any variety of dipping sauces could be used.
