Cooker Hood Light Replacement

I had to share this life-hack as the result was too good to pass.

Read on to see how I replaced the rubbish incandescent light with an L.E.D strip.

Supplies

LED Cool white strip cut to length with power supply.

Multi-purpose glue.

This picture shows the grimy glass cover that did not project much light in the first place.

Replacement light bulbs are difficult to find and are at premium prices so I had a brain wave to use a full width LED strip on the front edge and could not be more pleased with the result.

Careful preparation was taken to clean the surface so that I could use a good glue, do not hurry this stage and clean it twice, wipe down with clean kitchen paper and waiting and hour or more between cleaning to allow products to dissipate/evaporate.

Most LED strips come with an adhesive backing so it is possible to apply directly but I mounted mine in plastic electrical conduit so that I could use a quality glue for plastic to metal bond.

I used builder's calk to enrobe the power take-off point wiring to give some structure support and then connected that to the power supply which plugged into a nearby socket and job done!

... and here are the before and after pictures.

Unlike the original fitting the spread of light is much more intense over all the working area.

The light projects very well and is so good that I use it during the day and leave it on in the evening as background light.

This picture shows work in progress early evening but the only light in use is the LED cooker light.
