Clay Mask
This Instructables is about how to make a mask from paper clay. This mask was coloring-wise inspired by all the colorful masks you see around in different cultures and traditions. I have also painted the stand with different geometric designs so that it looks better than ever.
Supplies
Paper Clay, Paints(watercolor or acrylic, both work - preferably acrylic though), paint Primer, Newspaper, Paper Tape, clay tools, water!, fast-acting glue (if necessary)
Mask Structure
You crunch up newspaper in the shape of your mask (there needs to be a LOT of paper to get your preferred shape) and bind the shape in the way you want it by sticking it around with the paper tape. Then, you get the paper clay and _thickly_ apply it all over your paper shaped surface. It has to be THICK, don't worry about running out of clay - I made this error. The clay has to be perfectly smooth on top and not uneven for the best output.
Painting the Mask
First, using a broad-brush paint your entire mask with primer. This helps the paint actually stick to the mask. Wait until the primer is completely dried.
Here, my mask actually broke - I hadn't made it thick enough! So I had to improvise and smoothed out any rough edges I had with sandpaper ti get a completely new mask!. If yours breaks but the crack isn't too severe, I recommend sticking it back with glue.
When the primer dries, paint it! Make sure to make your mask vivid and express your inner creativity.
I also painted my supporting stand with swirls of color contrasting with the mask to get out the beauty of both.
