Christmas Ornament From Soda Cans
When it's time to decorate your Christmas tree this year, you may find yourself reaching for your trusty store-bought ornaments that have been gathering dust in the attic all year.
To help you break away from those ornaments and make some of your own, I present here my favorite DIY Christmas ornament made from soda cans. Please have a look at the video (Christmas ornament from soda cans).
Whether you're already in the Christmas spirit and can't wait to get to work, or you want to wait until you've picked out your tree to start crafting, there's never a wrong time to start thinking about what homemade Christmas ornaments you want to craft this season.
Parts List
The basic idea is to create some stars from flatten soda cans. These stars thereafter are soldered together to form a Christmas ornament ball. Therefore, you need the following items:
- Flatten Soda Cans Sheets (Link to instructables)
- Magnetic Punch Device for a star (Link)
- Adhesive Conductive Copper Foil Tape (Link)
Tools
- Soldering iron
- Solder
- Flux
- Flat nose pliers
- Nail polish remover
- Scissors
- Cotton swabs
Process
The easiest way to make a lot of stars is with the use of a Magnetic Punch Device. These punching devices can be placed anywhere on the flatten soda can, as the punched parts align with each other using magnets.
When you have produced enough stars you solder them together. It is almost impossible for a Hobbyist to solder aluminum. Therefore, we wrap adhesive copper band around the corners of the stars. Thereafter the corners are dipped in flux and covered with solder. The process is shown on the pictures or just follow the video.
Combine the Stars
When all the stars are covered with solder, solder the corners of the stars together so that the stars form a Christmas ornament ball.
