Christmas Cactus
This cute Christmas Cactus idea came to me while cleaning my garage. I had many old planters, spray paints, pool noodles and a wire hanger just waiting to be thrown out. That's when I came up with the idea for a Christmas Cactus. Its reusing my summer items for this years Christmas Decor.
Shaping your Cactus:
Cut each arm the length you want your cactus to be on each side. Now cut a piece of wire almost the size of arm, pull wire through arm, then curve and shape your noodle arm, leaving a small piece of wire sticking out at base of arm. Attach arm by piercing wire through trunk noodle and taping it to truck. Repeat steps for other arm. Bend and shape your cactus to desired shape, then insert broom stick into truck noodle for support. Your cactus should be standing straight and tall.
Note: I had to recreate my project for pictures purposes, so I didn't have the strong wire to hold Cactus in shape for the instructional pictures. However if you use wire hangers or strong wire, you will achieve a strong holding Christmas Cactus.
Planting your Cactus:
Use and planter / bucket to add cactus to, use something to weigh down and support cactus. I used small cans of tomato sauce. I started wrapping my garland where the cans end, then continue wrapping entire cactus. Then I added a red table clothe in planter to support cactus even more. You should now have a garland covered christmas cactus.
Decorating Christmas Cactus.
Decorate how you like!
All my decorations were purchased at dollar tree. The little gifts are foam dice wrapped in cute wrapping paper, the plane was painted by daughter to match. I also bought a plaid garland strand that I placed over table clothe.
Note: I only had one wire hanger to work with so in pictures you can see one arm is not as stable. This is why I mentioned use strong wire or hangers. Easy fix for this problem was fishing wire.
