Chocolate Batmobile
We saw this contest and wanted to do it so bad. Once we found out the school had a vacuum molder we knew we had to do it and the first thing we thought of was a chocolate batmobile so we had to make it.
Supplies
3d printer
filament
vacuum former
plastic sheet
chocolate
microwave
3d Print Model
With access to our school printer we found on online model of the old Michael Keaton batmobile and 3d printed it out of pla filament. We then waited approximately 10 hours and 30 minutes for it to finish up. Once it was finished we removed it from the print bed and cleaned off the supports.
Vacuum Mold
We then placed the two halves of the batmobile print face down on the vacuum molder. We turned on the heat and then when time was ready we flipped the plastic onto the print and turned on the fans. This caused the plastic to get pulled tight and create a near perfect mold. We then removed the 3d print from the mold carefully so it would not crack.
Fill With Chocolate
With the mold cleaned and ready we got out chocolate and microwave ready to fill the mold. Once we had everything situated we started melting small bowls of chocolate at a time for 15 second and then stirred it to remove chunks. Once the chocolate was fully melted we would pour it into the mold and tap the mold against the table to remove bubbles. We repeated this until the mold was full of chocolate.
Refrigerate
Once the mold is full of chocolte we then would put it in a refrigerator to cool it down. We cut the molds to a smaller size to better fit them in the refrigerator. We waited 24 hours before removing them so they could fully harden.
Connect
The final step was to connect the two harden halfs. We removed the two halves from the mold. Once removed we cleaned up all lose and extra chunks with an clean knife. We then slightly heated boths halves with a lighter and gently smooshed them together. Once together we used our finger to gently fill in the holes with the melted chocolate.
