Cheesy Garlic Knot Wreath (made With Pizza Dough)

Elise's Eats - Ep 154: Garlic Dough Ball Wreath

So I love pizza and I love garlic bread. One day I had too much pizza dough and decided to try making a delicious and amazing invention (probably already done but it was new for me) and made delicious cheesy, garlic pizza dough balls which made my soul sing!!!

This recipe is incredibly easy (you can get pizza dough fro any Italian restaurant or shop, or make your own) and this is a quick and easy recipe to make for a party!!

Ingredients

IMG_6729.JPG

- Approx. 500g fresh pizza dough

- Plain flour to roll out pizza dough

- 350-500g (30-40 cubes) of mozzarella cheese

- 2-3 garlic cloves, crushed (if you love garlic bread then, of course, you can add more!!)

- 1/3 cup (75g) butter

- 2 + ½ Tbsp olive oil

- 1/2- 1 tsp salt (may want more depending on taste and what type of butter you use)

- Approx. 2 Tbsp fresh, finely chopped parsley

- Finely grated parmesan cheese to top (optional)

- Tomato sauce/ Napolitana sauce to serve

Equipment

- Knife

- Rolling pin

- Round cake tin (I use one with a removable bottom as this is easier to serve.

- Pastry brush

- Oven safe sauce ramekin (if you do not have one use a ball of aluminium foil in the centre the side of a serving bowl for sauce later. This helps keep a hole for your sauce later).

Knead Your Dough

Take your pizza dough out of the fridge and let it sit for about 20-30 minutes to come to room temperature (I love getting fresh pizza dough from my local Italian restaurant as I don’t always have time to make my own dough, you can also get this from shops in the fridge section).

Then sprinkle some plain flour onto the countertop and place your dough ball in the centre. Knead the dough by placing the palm of your hand in the centre of the dough and push down and forward to stretch the dough. Then pull the dough back over itself, rotate it ¼ turn and continue for a few minutes until the dough is all together. Let it sit for a couple of minutes

Cut Your Dough

Once your dough is rolled, cut and divide the dough into 4 large pieces. Then with your rolling pin, roll the dough out into a rough rectangle shape and then cut it into 8-10 pieces depending on how much dough you have. (in total you should have between 32-40 squares of dough.

Make the Cheesy Dough Balls

Take a cube of cheese and place this in the dough (for an extra incredible flavour you can roll the cheese into some garlic powder or your garlic butter mixture too). Then fold the dough over the cheese until it is a beautiful little dough ball. Place the balls seam side down.

Make the Garlic Butter

To make the garlic butter place the butter and oil together in a small bowl and heat in the microwave until melted. Then add the garlic, salt and parsley (if you make this before you make your dough balls add abit of this inside the balls (roll the cheese in it) for an extra garlic kick.

Make Your Wreath

Now get your round cake tin (you can use a tray if you don’t mind about the shape. I’m just doing this because it looks cute for a Christmas wreath. Then with your pastry brush spread some of the garlic butter mixture on the bottom and sides of the tin. Then add your cheesy dough balls around the ramekin close together but still loose so that they can expand. Then cover with a damp tea towel and then sit in a warm room for about 30minutes so that the dough can rest and rise slightly.

Bake Your Garlic Wreath

Reheat your garlic butter if needed then brush it over the top of your dough. Then place in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celcius (350 degrees Farenheit) for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve

Now that it is baked, while it is still hot, place your dipping sauce into the ramekin in the middle and then grate some fresh parmesan cheese over the top on the wreath. Then serve immediately and enjoy the delicious, garlicky, goodness!!!!
