Cheap and Simple Cat Grass Toy
Hi,
Meet Nyx my cat. Regardless of all the cute, plush or expensive cat toys I buy her my cats favorite toy is a plastic bag,
In this instructable i am going to show you how to make a cheap and simple cat grass toy for your feline friend to enjoy.
WARNING: I made this for my cat as i am familiar enough with her behavior to know that she wouldn't try and eat it. If your cat is partial to eating strands of plastic you may want to avoid this instructable.
Stuff You'll Need
Materials
A piece of corrugated card board (nothing too thick. you'll see why next step)
Plastic bags
Tools
Scissors
pencil
All About That Base, Bout That Base...
...No catnip
ahem
Take your piece of card and using your pencil start making holes in it until you have covered the entire thing.
If the cardboard is too think this would be a pain to do.
I made a grid pattern keeping the holes about an inch apart. You could make it denser if you wanted to.
Cutting the "grass"
Take your plastic bag and cut off the bottom and the handles so you are left with a tube. You might want to keep these bits as they can still be used in the next step.
Cut the bag in half into 2 tubes and repeat with each section until you have a selection of tubes about an inch thick (but it doesn't need to be perfect so don't worry.
Then cut your tubes in half the opposite way from what you have been doing thus far so you have a load of strips of plastic. How many you'll need is down to what size of cardboard you used
Laying the Grass
Once you have enough strips to cover your board start feeding them through so that they form loops with the open end still underneath the base. you may want to use the pencil to help prod the plastic through.
I also used different types of plastic bags to vary the texture of the "grass"
And Done
And there you go, your own plastic cat grass toy for your feline friend.
I would love to say Nyx went crazy for it but in all honesty i think she would be just as happy with a bag on the floor ha!
EDIT: After a bit of investigating i can say that Nyx loves it :)
As always I hope you enjoyed this instructable and please feel free to leave any comments, questions or pictures of your own cat grass creations below.
