I made a simple wrap with large pockets to carry your art supplies, knitting projects, crochet materials, journal, notebook, pencils, cell phone, snacks, etc. Just place it around your neck and carry whatever you wish.

Make it with your favorite fabric. Use a washable, non-stretch fabric of your choice. I used a beautiful cotton fabric with a lovely yellowish gold printed design. Denim fabric would be perfect and the lining could be whatever you decide to use or have on hand.

Supplies

  • Fabric (2 yards)
  • Button
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine
  • Needle
  • Pins
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Marker
  • Paper for pattern (32.0" x 12.0" )

Pattern

Mark and cut a rectangular paper pattern, 31.0" x 11.5". Mark 15.0" from one of the 11.5" ends . Fold the pattern in half lengthwise. Mark the center of the pattern. Mark both ends of the pattern at 2.5" from the center. The end marked at 15.0" will have an opening of 5.0" for turning inside out after sewing the front and back sides together. The 16.0" end will be cut to 5.0" wide and gradually curves to the middle with a sharp curve out on each side to the 15.0" marks. The 5.0" end will be placed on the folded fabric.

Pin and Cut the Fabric

Cut 4 fabric rectangles, 10.5" x 11.0", for the pockets. Two for the outer or front of the pockets and 2 for the linings.

Button loop:

Cut 1 piece of fabric, 4.5" x 3.0".

Button loop:

Fold in half lengthwise with the right sides facing out. Open flat and fold each side in to the center. Fold in half again. Sew the open side together with a 0.25" seam allowance. Fold the loop in half with the sewn edges flat and facing each other. Flatten the folded end into a triangle. Sew across the bottom of the triangle.

Wrap:

Pin the button loop 2.0" down from the front top edge of the wrap facing inward. Pin both sections of the wrap with the right sides together. Sew with a 0.5" seam allowance all around the wrap leaving a 5.0" opening at the center of one of the 11.5" ends. Remove the pins, clip the corners, notch the curved areas, turn the wrap right sides out. Push out the corners with scissors or a pointed object. Push out the seams and press with an iron to flatten. Top stitch the front of each 11.5" ends using a 0.25" seam allowance. This will give the front a nice finished look and close the hole where the wrap was turned through.

Pockets:

Pin and sew the pockets right sides together leaving a 3.0" opening on the bottom 10.0" sides . Remove the pins, clip the corners, and turn both pockets right sides out. Push out the corners with scissors or a pointed object. Press flat and top stitch the unopened 10.0" top side of each pocket at 0.25" and again at 0.5". Pin each pocket to the front of the wrap, 1.0" from the bottom of the wrap, and center each pocket on both sides of the wrap. Sew each pocket to the front with a 0.25" seam allowance leaving the top open. Back stitch at the top of each pocket and on each corner of the pockets for extra support.

Button:

Hand sew your favorite button to the front of the wrap after lining it up with the button loop.

Enjoy your Carry-All Wrap!
